TavernierUnited defender James Tavernier (JT) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) following Carlisle's 1-0 League One win at home to Stevenage, the Newcastle-loanee saying it was a nice to get a clean sheet at Brunton Park :

JP

Everyone must be delighted to get back to winning ways today?

JT

Yeah, it is great to get a good home win and a clean sheet at home. We have had some disappointing results lately but it is really good that we got a win today and hopefully we can get another good result next week.

JP

And I have interrupted you when you are stood outside with all your family and friends over there, what does it feel like to be playing professional football now and having them come out and watching you in these games with big crowds following you?

JT

Yeah, it is really great, coming from reserve football into league football is really good and a great experience for me and my family can come and watch and really enjoy me pushing on with my career.

JP

Is that a big difference as well from that reserve football to football like this when you have got vocal home support and you have got a team trying so hard to get the results and at times it not quite happening, it matters more at this level?

JT

Yeah, most definitely, because in the reserves you want to play well but the results are not really what the club is looking for at reserves level. But, when it comes down to this you are really fighting to keep up in the league and every player is looking to really push on and get promoted really, so it is a great experience.

JP

What is it like from a player's perspective? We hear a lot about what the fans think at the moment, I know that the run the club has been on has had those cup games in it and actually after today's win United aren't too far actually off the play-offs would you believe. So, it shows how up and down football can be?

JT

Yeah, we have been in the top six and we have dropped out, and I think we are tenth today, so hopefully we can get a really good result next week and push on up the league and really fight and try to get as high as we can.

JP

And I know we have got you for another sort of six to seven weeks now I think it is after you extended your stay, any ideas beyond that or are you just taking these weeks in for now?

JT

Yeah, just taking it day by day, every game that comes along just taking it by that, so I am not really looking too much into the future, I am just really concentrating on about now, so that is what I will be doing.

JP

And I know Newcastle have got money to throw about, they have signed this brilliant Italian, I think he can play right-back or left-back can't he, (Davide) Santon, but if they did say no, go and get some more experience at the end of your loan would you be happy to stay with Carlisle United?

JT

Erm, obviously when it comes down to it Newcastle have got the first say in the final so it is down to them, but I am happy wherever is going to push my football in the right direction, so I would be happy to stay here.

JP

And who have you made good relationships with so far at Brunton Park? Who are the people you kick about with in training and in and around the ground on matchdays etc.?

JT

I know Mark Gillespie from Newcastle when we were in the Academy there, Liam Noble, I have played against him quite a lot of times at Sunderland. So, I am really with all the boys, it is a good group of lads and we are all together and it is really good.

JP

Who have you found to be the characters in there?

JT

Er, there are a few, Craig Curran is mainly the character in the dressing room, he is always doing something funny, so he is probably one.
