United loanee James Chester (JC) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) at Tuesday's Christmas player visit to the Cumberland Infirmary children's ward, Chester talking about his morning at the hospital :

JP

Is this your first experience of this sort of thing?

JC

I did it last year, when I was at Manchester United we went to a children's hospital at the same time and gave the children some Christmas presents. It is just nice to put things in perspective, football is not the be-all and end-all, you see these poor little children here and you realise how lucky you are. But, if you can come here and brighten up their day a little bit then it makes it all worthwhile.

JP

Just seeing the little smiles on some of them when you are giving them their little teddies and little bits of Carlisle United stuff, it must make you feel great and it clearly is great for them?

JC

Yeah, definitely, they are obviously not very well or they wouldn't be here. So, if we can come here and brighten up their day a little bit then it makes us feel happier. Because, we are in a privileged position and if we can bring something to their day then it makes it worthwhile.

JP

Speaking of a privileged position, how are you finding it at the moment at the club?

JC

I am still really enjoying it, I said when I came here that I just wanted to play football and play games, and I am still doing that, and hopefully it can continue.

JP

It has been a great bit of form that Carlisle have been on, certainly the month of November was a great month for you. Not quite the start I am sure everyone would have wanted in December but no doubt that as you come up into this busy Christmas period it is a chance to put a lot more points on the board?

JC

Yeah, definitely, we have shown through November that we are a very good team. The defeat at home on Saturday was disappointing but there are a lot of games coming up in December and we will look to pick up and get some more points on the board, and get back up in those play-off places.

JP

Did you ever know that you had it in you to be a left-back when you came to Carlisle United?

JC

No, I don't think I have ever played left-back before but I have played right-back and it is a good position, I have just got to use my swinger a little bit more. But, it was enjoyable, as long as I am playing then I am happy so I will play wherever he (Greg Abbott) wants me to.

JP

Any thoughts at this stage, or are you any closer to knowing whether you will be here beyond the end of your initial loan spell here?

JC

I went back in last week to try to catch Sir Alex (Ferguson), but I kept missing him, he was either on the phone or he wasn't in his office. But, I spoke to the assistant (Mike Phelan) and he said that they had a chat about it, so I have been back here and spoken to Greg and I am just waiting for them to give Manchester United a call and see what they say.

JP

What about your feelings about Carlisle United though through all of your time here? Would you like to be back here if the chance was there for you?

JC

Yeah, I have loved it, they are all great lads and I get on well with them. I enjoy coming in every day and training with them, so we will see what happens but hopefully maybe we can extend to the end of the season and see where we go.

JP

It would be great to see that, how have you actually found yourself at the level having played reserve team football before, you really seem to have slotted straight into this level of football, it is something you have taken in your stride?

JC

I felt I could play at this level but I have surprised myself how well it has gone, it has been really enjoyable.

JP

And what do you make of the fans at Carlisle United? They are a very vocal bunch aren't they, they really get involved with the team?

JC

Yeah, they do you know and that is what we want, they pay their money to come and watch, so if they can get behind us then it gives us a lift and hopefully we can get them a few more wins.

JP

And I must ask you about this before I let you go, you were enjoying a victory for your club over Arsenal last night?

JC

Yeah, definitely, I am still a Manchester United fan no matter where I am at, so I really enjoyed the game last night.

JP

Always do it against those teams don't they in the big matches? Sir Alex Ferguson always seems to know the way?

JC

Yeah, he has not been in charge for 24 years without knowing what to do. So, I think they need to beat the top teams up there if they are going to win the league again, and they look good at the moment.
