New United loan signing Jake Jervis (JJ) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Paul Newton (PN) on Wednesday afternoon, targetman Jervis happy to be away from Birmingham City in a search for regulat first team football:

JJ

I am very happy to get out and be playing games definitely, when you get to a certain age you need to just be playing and obviously the chance of playing in League One, it is a good standard and just playing against decent teams. It has gone pretty quick to be fair, yesterday afternoon I was on my way back from training, so I had to go back and then come back to Birmingham to collect stuff. So, it just happened quickly from yesterday.

PN

Did you know much about the club and about the players at the club beforehand?

JJ

To be fair I think there was a centre-half (Mike Edwards) that was at Notts County when I was there, so there is him that I know, but apart from that there are not a lot of people I know of here. It is just a chance for me, I have been told to create a lot of chances and they just need someone to score, so hopefully I can be that guy to do that.

PN

How did the association with Birmingham City come about?

JJ

When I was 15 I was at Shrewsbury Town and then they brought me from there when I was 15, and I have been there ever since really. I have been out on loan to Hereford, Notts County, Swindon and Preston.

PN

Yeah, you have had some first team experience elsewhere, how much have you enjoyed that?

JJ

Yeah, it is great just to be out playing, obviously you are playing in front of stadiums, obviously you can go to smaller stadiums and bigger stadiums, it is good to get experience playing in all of them really. It is definitely good to step up and just see if you can handle that level.

PN

Yeah, how did you feel you coped with League One football?

JJ

Yeah, I thought I coped with it well, I did well in my first couple of games and scored goals so it was a decent experience for me.

PN

For the benefit of those who haven't seen you play, how would you describe your style?

JJ

Well, I like to............ I have got a bit of pace to get in behind defenders and I like to get on the ball and play, and obviously get in positions to score goals.

PN

What is your contract situation at Birmingham then? How much longer have you got there and what is your immediate future beyond this season?

JJ

Well, I have got a year there and then from there I will just see how this season goes and then hopefully get offered a new deal or obviously explore other options.

PN

And what are the plans then? Are you going to be living in digs up here during your loan spell or are you going to be travelling up? What are the plans?

JJ

Definitely staying up here, I don't think I will be going back for the month or so. I will up here either in a hotel or wherever.

PN

And it is not a bad game on Saturday, Portsmouth up here if you are going to be involved, which I imagine you will be?

JJ

Yeah, definitely, obviously Portsmouth have got their troubles but they have signed quite a few players, so it will be an interesting game.

PN

Through your experience with Preston last season how good do you think the level of is, the quality of League One football?

JJ

From League Two you get a lot of teams that generally play the longer ball, but as you come up to League One there are a lot more technical players, and you get to play a bit more football.

PN

So, an exciting few weeks ahead of you now?

JJ

Yeah, definitely, I am just excited to get going really. I just obviously want to be out there playing and doing as well as I can. Last year I was scoring goals and I just wanted to go out there and experience men's football and that kind of thing really. It is more excitement now than nerves really, I have done it a couple of times now so the first time when I went out and I was really young at 17, obviously I was nervous and I didn't know what to expect really, but now I am out and it just an exciting thing really.
