Greg AbbottUnited boss Greg Abbott (GA) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) after Carlisle's entertaining 0-0 draw away to Leyton Orient, Abbott saying that there was some fantastic football in the game :

JP

A 0-0 score draw, but nowhere near one of those bore score draws that people might look at and expect to see, it was just a brilliant game?

GA

It was the best 0-0er I have seen in a long, long time, I thought it was absolutely fantastic football. Two teams, Orient obviously needed the points for a different reason, we needed the points for my reason, that I want to get more points and more points, I don't want the season to just fizzle out. I thought it was a fantastic game and probably on the balance of the chances I still think we should have won the game. I think the chances we had, the keeper (Jamie Jones) has made some wonderful.........

Their keeper was their man of the match by a million miles, Adam (Collin) has not really had that many saves to make, their two chances they missed the target so Adam hasn't really had a save. But, what a game, and just pleased for the fans again, they have come down and they have seen us come away with something. To be fair, I couldn't have faced another six hour journey with nothing after the way we have played the last two or three games.

JP

You would have thought that their fans, because this is a bit of a bang on their play-off chances, you would have thought they would have been a bit disappointed tonight, but they were cheering your team off because they enjoyed this game tonight?

GA

It was a super game, sometimes you can come off there and you can feel disappointed you haven't won, lost or drawn. But, tonight I think both teams gave everything, the fans enjoyed the game, the players seemed to enjoy the game, it was a great spirit, competitive, and it is a really good advert for this division. All I am asking the players is to keep giving me reasons to believe that next season we can drive on and be better. We think we are a couple of players away from being a really, really good side, we have got to put the ball in the net, when we play as well as that we have to put the ball in the net and we haven't done. That is probably the only negative to come out of the game tonight for me.

JP

Paddy Madden coming close to getting his first goal, it would have been a great way to win the game as well?

GA

Yeah, it is never missing is it and it hits the underside of the bar and comes out. There was probably never going to be a goal tonight but it could have been 4-4 and we could have been talking about an epic, an absolute classic, 4-3 I mean.

JP

To Carlisle?

GA

Yeah, so, everybody goes away reasonably happy, well probably Russell (Slade) won't be because he needs the points. But, we have got something on our travels and it is the end of five massive, massive journeys, and a massive hit for the players who have been outstanding.

JP

Was your heart in your mouth a little bit at the end when that cross came into (Dean) Cox two yards out? What on earth happened there?

GA

You are looking at what happened on Saturday and we didn't deserve to come away with nothing on Saturday, and then you think if we do it again then I must have run over and stamped on a few black cats, and I haven't honestly.

JP

Gone under a few ladders?

GA

I think we deserved that little bit of good fortune right at the death, but it would have been a travesty if we had gone home with nothing tonight.

JP

You would have wanted the three points, but sometimes you come away from a game and you couldn't have given any more to get it tonight I wouldn't have thought?

GA

Absolutely not, we are asking these players who are on the end of the fifth long journey in a matter of not even weeks, it is more days, and they have produced a performance of utter top quality. Everybody has appreciated it, not just our fans but the Orient fans on the night have appreciated it and let's hope we can produce another performance like that on Saturday.

JP

The last midweek game of the season as well, how grateful will the players be for the week long break this time?

GA

I am not even interested in the players, I am absolutely delighted it is the last midweek one, I want a break as well, I need a rest, my head is in bits.

JP

And what about the (Colchester) game at the weekend? It should be a cracker against former manager John Ward?

GA

Brilliant, yeah well, listen, both teams again want to win, John wants to win because he wants to finish as high up the table, and I do as well. Both teams probably are going to miss out on the play-offs, well, more than likely going to miss out on the play-offs. So, they can play with no fear and play some really good stuff, let's hope it was a classic like it was tonight and there is goals in it.

JP

I know that you do like to talk about the spirt of the team and rightly so, when you get a performance like that after what must have been such a heartbreaking late defeat at the weekend, what does that say about the team?

GA

Well, you shouldn't even need to ask me that question at this stage of the season, because the spirit throughout the season has been absolutely exemplary. They are an absolute credit to work with and I have just told them that in the dressing room, that they make managing enjoyable and easy work. Yes, there is pressure on us all to get results but when you have got a team that try to do what you tell them to do and do it with a really good attitude and enthusiasm for the game it really is enjoyable, they are a fantastic group of players.
