United caretaker manager Greg Abbott spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Tuesday night about the 2-2 draw at Hartlepool tonight that would later turn out to be his last game in temporary charge of the Blues :

" A breathtaking game, I thought that it was a phenomenal game, both sides trying to win a game and both sides trying to play football the right way. An unbelievable amount of effort from my players and from Danny (Wilson's) players, credit to Hartlepool, they were down twice and they battled back.

" We've defended a little bit at times, we've had to, we've caused them problems at the other end, a fantastic advert for League One football for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the game and it's testimony of what our players are doing at the moment. They are absolutely a dream group to work with and I just thought the game was terrific.

" Two slightly different styles, we have got genuine pace now, we've got genuine threats down the wide areas, both our goals came from there. We'll end up being a joy to watch I think, we'll have games like this now because we've got players there that can do what they are doing in the wide areas and attacking players. Joe Garner's work-rate, his goals on Saturday, Danny Graham's work-rate tonight - somebody told me that he is a lazy player who just scores goals, well you've seen that (he isn't).

" I'm on to him all the time about his work-rate and I keep saying that the harder you work the more goals you will score. I just thought to a man they were absolutely fantastic after the tough game we had all the way down at Bournemouth on Saturday. Disappointed that we've conceded a late goal? - I am but you've got to look at the bigger picture at times. I think that if we play like this and we show the determination and attitude that we have showed tonight then I think the club is in good hands.

" I think four points from two away games is a good return, we can't be too greedy, we can't be blaise, we can't be big-headed. We are going to have to come to grounds like this and work our socks off like we have done tonight and hopefully take something. We were close to winning again, we were close to winning at Swansea, maybe should have snatched a draw against Tranmere. "

" Put those things into our season and it would have been a fantastic, well it is a fantastic start, but we could have been in dreamland. We don't get carried away though because we know there is a load and load of hard work. We can't let the players drop, we can't let the standards drop because as soon as we do that we'll end up a mediocre team and we don't want that.

" I haven't made it difficult enough for them to make a decision on the job because they are bringing a new manager in tomorrow. So I haven't made it difficult enough, I haven't done enough to convince them that I am the man for the job. I'm absolutely distraught with that, they know that, I think they have made the wrong decision but I respect the decision they have made.

" I'm an honourable person and I'm a brave little man, I want everybody to know that I have given everything that I could to the cause. My players have been fantastic for me, and while I have been here you guys, and all the press have supported, the fans and everybody. So I want to say a big thank you to everybody and you are the first to know.

" I don't want to give you a name, that's up to the board to do that. I think that there will be an announcement tomorrow morning, I think that you'll all know in due course who it is. I gave the board my word that I wouldn't let the name out, I do know who it is and I think it's, a good appointment is hard for me to say, but I think that he is a terrific fella.

" He has asked me to work with him, which I'm not surprised, because without being silly, I think that I've done a good job with these players and I've done a good job while I have been handed the reins. We have to see how my position goes but the good thing is that the players know that they have got to kick on from what we have done with the new manager. Hopefully do something in the game, or this season, that I know they are well capable of. "
