Blues boss Greg Abbott
United manager Greg Abbott spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey early this week about Carlisle's chances of avoiding relegation into League Two, Abbott suggesting that the Blues are capable of beating any side in the division :

" I don't know where the wins might come from, I can see them coming from any one of the six games. If we play like we know we can, we have beaten the best teams, we have beaten the big teams. We have given Leicester a hell of a game here, we have given Peterborough a hell of a game home and away, and they are the best two in the league and we have competed with them.

" So we have got to think that we can win there, if we don't we win there then we will look to win the next one, and if we don't win there then we will look to win the next one after that. So I can't tell you where they are going to come from because I am not a crystal ball.

" I can tell you that we are capable of winning all of them but we are also capable of losing them all. We have showed both sides that we can do the wins and that we can do the defeats, but we have got to hope that we can perform like we have done against the big teams and then nail one of the smaller teams if you like.

" It is tightening up at the bottom isn't it, I think that Northampton play Yeovil tonight so there is another team that is going to win and lose or possibly a draw. You wonder actually what you want the best result to be there, it is a tight one to call, but there are a lot of teams playing each other.

" There is a lot of traffic and the more traffic there the more likely one of them is to get drawn in. What you wouldn't want is it to maybe be us and them, that is why I say it is still in our hands because if we do get three wins then we are out of it. There will be six or seven other teams saying exactly the same as us though, so it is all down to ourselves. "

" Ian Harte is a very good player, he has got 75 caps for the Republic (of Ireland) or close on, and that tells you that he has got bags and bags of ability. He is only 31 years old and with our situation getting worse and worse in terms of injuries at the back end of the field it was something that we had to do.

" We tried to get a number of players and we always knew about Ian, he was invited here a while ago but he chose to do another thing, which is fine, absolutely fine. Then we spoke to him and asked him if he would be willing to come and see how he was and if he was right and if he was then we would play him. We played a practice match on Thursday, he did very, very well and there is more to come from Ian, I am pleased with him.

" Ian Morris is probably a type that we need, he makes tackles, he has got energy, he puts people under pressure, he wins headers, he is a good size. I thought that Kav (Graham Kavanagh) and him, Kav looked after him very well, he has got experience and what Ian is is inexperienced.

" I know that he is 22 but he is still learning the game, but he could be a good player if he learns quickly because he has got a lot of things going for him. He just needs to slow himself down at times, as he got himself booked and then a couple of challenges maybe was getting himself into a bit more trouble. You can knock that off though, you can't always put it on but he certainly gets around the pitch.

" The thing is that I think that if weren't creating chances and we didn't look like we were going to score goals then you would be really, really worried. We always do look like scoring goals and we might just turn somebody over three or four you know, once one goes in early then we might get another one. "

" What we have got to do though is that when we do score is not concede like we did on Saturday within five minutes. We have no problem, I have no problem with any of the strikers not scoring goals, I think that we have got, there is Joe (Anyinsah), there is Bridgey (Michael Bridges), there is Danny (Graham), there is Dobes (Scott Dobie), there is Lewis Neal.

" They have all got a goal in them, certainly the midfield players have nipped in with a couple as well, so there are goals in the team. We have just got to, we can't keep talking about it, we have got to make sure that we start converting the chances otherwise we are going to be in trouble, like all the other teams would be if they are not scoring their chances.

" It puts extra pressure on your back four, if you have got to score two to win a game then you are putting pressure on your back four all the time. Let's just hope that we can keep creating the chances and very quickly start putting them away.

" I just thought that Evan (Horwood), he came back where he left off. We wanted to give Michael (Liddle) a bit of a rest, he has been finding things difficult, and I know that people are saying that at full-back we are struggling.

" We haven't had much choice, Evan has been sitting there with a knee injury and nursing that. Up and until he got his, well when he got back in the team a few weeks back he was playing very, very well and he came on Saturday, I thought that he was our man of the match to be honest with you. "

" I thought that he was absolutely terrific but Ian (Harte) has got it because he has come in and shored up a position that has needed something doing about it. I thought that Evan was terrific though, his tackling, his one v one, his enthusiasm and the fact that he has not done a lot of football with his injury, brilliant, really, really pleased for him.

" If you think of all the apprentices that are in the Football League and Tom Aldred winning is a magnificent achievement for Tom. The one thing Tom is, he is a determined young man, his football has been terrific with the progress that he has made with that, and he has been recognised with his award down in London.

" So he will be feeling on top of the world, he might have a headache because he got a bit of a blow to his eye on Saturday, which I had to bring him away from the game myself. I am really pleased for Tom and his family though, it means a lot and it shows that he is making the right impressions and making progress in the right direction, and we are all pleased for him.

" I'd just ask the supporters to dig in again, I thought that they were terrific on Saturday. I think that they have got behind us, I think that they are certainly out-shouting the critics aren't they, they want to make their voice heard.

" I think that they want to clap us, I said that last week on Friday, I think that they just want to applaud us off for winning a game, and I think that they are still waiting to do that. They are with us, they have to be with us because we are all together and I thought that they were really, really good on Saturday. "
