Blues boss Greg Abbott
Carlisle manager Greg Abbott spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips on Thursday at the United press conference, Abbott giving his views on what dangers Stockport will pose when they face the Cumbrians at Brunton Park tomorrow afternoon :

" They are a hard working side, we have watched them three times in the last couple of weeks actually. We watched them on Tuesday night, we watched them again last week against MK Dons and then somebody else watched them at the weekend. I think that he has done a great job has Jim (Gannon) on limited resources and under financial constraints.

" They will be tough, they work very, very hard, they have got a lot of energy in the team and it will be a tough game for us, but it is a game that we can't wait for. We think that we are in a good position ourselves and we are full of confidence and I think that it will be a good game.

" It was a terrific result at Brighton at the weekend and over the last ten games (nine - ed) I think that we have only lost twice. We have got to take into that a lot of optimism and encouragement, the players are full of it, on the training ground it is a lively place again. We want a run of results now, a string of good results now which sees us move quite a way up the table.

" It makes Stockport harder to mark because they have got no single goalscorer, I think that we are similar, we are starting to get players now that are scoring goals from all over. They are a hard working side, they have put together a terrific run this year and Jim will be well pleased with that. We have got players that we think can score as well though and we will be hoping that they can do that on Saturday."

" They have got some good players and they have got a good game-plan, but we have seen them often enough to know that we think we can give them a good game. They are not world-beaters, it's only Stockport but without showing them any lack of respect we are not going to fear them. We do respect what they have done and they have done very well but we are not going to fear them.

" We are going to go into the game full of optimism and full of hope that we can win the game. If we keep winning games then we are going to move up the table, so the more games we win the more places we will move up. That will mean starting on Saturday so we just hope that we can do that.

" We are near enough at full strength as what we were last week. Obviously Danny (Livesey), Jeff Smith and Marc Bridge-Wilkinson won't be involved, they will be a little bit longer, again we don't know the exact timespan on them but they won't be with us. The rest of it though is all OK and ready for selection.

" We approach the game in a way that we think will win us the game, that is how we are going to approach it. We are going to go there with what we think are some nice attacking options, we are going to hopefully stop what we think are their best ways of scoring goals and hopefully we will come out on top. "

" I think that you have seen a really positive improvement in his (Cleveland Taylor's) game. He has been terrific on the football pitch and that is where we want him to do his stuff. What Cleveland does give you though, he gives you a lively dressing room, he gives you an upbeat spirit when you walk into the training ground.

" He is a player that you enjoy, everybody enjoys working with, not just me and the rest of the backroom staff but the players as well. I think that his performances over the last maybe two months have been absolutely outstanding. His character spreads, he is infectious and that is why we say he is playing such a vital part in what we do, not just on the pitch but around the training ground as well.

" We have spent money in January, I don't see why you are saying that we haven't spent any money, we have spent money. We have spent money in terms of big wages for Graham Kavanagh, big wages for Lewis Neal, a transfer fee for Joe Anyinsah and then we have managed to get Tony Kane from a Premier League club.

" So we are delighted, absolutely delighted, and what we are hoping is that these players go on and prove that they can be really good acquisitions to the football club and make us better. Early indications are that they are going to be OK. "

" Let's concentrate on the football rather than their contracts at the moment, they are doing really well and everything else takes care of that. At the minute though they are doing a fantastic job for us, there is a long way to go. It is in the early stages but I want to see them play and I want to see them produce the same sort of performances that they have done, and improve on that and make us better.

" We just want to keep winning games and we think that we are improving. You look at where we were at other stages of the season and where we are now. Our run of two in ten is encouraging, we want to keep that going, we want to give the fans something to shout about. We are due a home performance now because the last two, first-half Walsall was terrific, second-half put on the back foot a little bit.

" The Colchester one though was disappointing, we want to put that out of our minds and give them something like we did at Brighton in the first-half, which was absolutely outstanding football. The 221 fans that went down there would agree with that, we want to do it here at Brunton Park though to let our fans see us really go to town and play some great stuff, it can't always be like that but we will be trying.

" The fans have got to come and hopefully support us as they do. You know times are hard, you can't drag people in, what we have got to try to do is keep a level of football that would encourage them to come in and hopefully get results, which are important. The fans are terrific here though, they have backed us and the 4,500 that were here against Walsall were absolutely terrific.

" The ones that went down to Brighton were fantastic and all we do is say is that we appreciate the support and we will be trying our best and working our hardest on the training ground, and then again on Saturday, to get a positive result for them. "
