United caretaker manager Greg Abbott spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria on Friday evening as he talked about his first managerial transfer deadline day and the home game against Cheltenham tomorrow :

" It's been busy, a bit frustrating in one or two areas, but we'll crack on and we'll take stock of what has happened. Harry (Worley) has come in from Chelsea which is encouraging and we'd like to see how he does, and Danny Kirkup has gone to Clyde which will give him valuable experience, I'm pleased that he (Kirkup) has accepted it gratefully and it will improve him as a player.

" I think that all the young players at Chelsea would have a reputation attached to them, they're all potential top players. He needs to further his football education and he needs to have some games and see where he is at, we're going to give him that opportunity. He looks like a big, strong boy and he's got a lot of presence about him so hopefully he'll come into the team or into the squad tomorrow and improve himself.

" We're still optimistic on deals, things are getting a little bit late in the day now but we're still optimistic, we've still got a couple of irons in the fire. We'd like to bring another one in if we could but if it doesn't happen then I'm quite happy with the squad that we have got. I think sometimes you move in desperation, we're certainly not that are we with the squad that we have got but if the one we were after came up and we could do it then it would be very good for the club.

" Slipped through the net on some is probably the wrong word, we haven't had the co-operation probably from the other clubs that we might have had. That has been disappointing but as for slipped through the net, well they haven't gone anywhere else it's just that the movement from the other clubs hasn't happened. It's left us just chasing a little bit of a lost cause but that happens, it's not desperate, we've got a fantastic squad for our level and we are trying to improve it all the time. We'll do that between now and Christmas if that's what has to happen.

" I wouldn't have thought anybody would leave tonight, I'm not keen to let anybody go anywhere at the moment. It was more adding to what we have got so unless somebody comes in with a stupid offer for a player, which would have happened by now, I think we'll safely say that most of the players, infact all of the players, will stay with us for the timebeing. "

" It's been a bit frustrating today to be honest because we wanted one or two things to happen. I'm not desperate, I'm not impatient, we can wait. I'm perfectly happy with the squad that we have got at the moment but we are always looking to improve it. It hasn't happened today though and we'll continue that process through to the December deadline.

" His (Harry Worley's) agent Des Rowe was actually my boot-boy at Bradford City, I was playing in the first-team and he was cleaning my boots. He actually rang me a couple of weeks ago and said he might be available, obviously I've got a good couple of connections at Chelsea through Des and then Gary Worthington who worked with me at Leeds United for about four of five years.

" I've had some good recommendations and hopefully this will be the start of a little connection with Chelsea if Harry comes, does well, enjoys the place and he goes back with a good impression. We might just be able to tap into a few more of their young players. He's been around the first-team squad this season but he wants some games, I know that he is well thought of down there.

It's his chance to come here and if he is successful with us it sends him back, as with Dan Kirkup, as a better player and nearer to the first-team. He knows that he has got a fair way to go because of the amount of players that they have got and the quality that they have there. He's come in though and he's said all the right things, he's a smashing lad, we just want to make sure that he enjoys his time with us and he performs out there on the pitch with us.

" I was fully focused on the job in hand this morning with the players on the Cheltenham game and they were exceptional again in training as they have been right the way through. We've got a gameplan for Cheltenham, all the focus this morning was on that game and once that was out of the way that's when the other bits and pieces started to take their toll. The lads know what is expected of them tomorrow, transfer thing out of the window it is important for us to go ahead tomorrow and get three points. Obviously Peter Murphy is still out injured but he is progressing nicely, apart from that though I think that we have got a full squad to pick from. "
