Francois Zoko
United striker Francois Zoko (FZ) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) at Tuesday's Christmas player visit to the Cumberland Infirmary children's ward, Zoko happy to sign a new contract today that keeps him at Brunton Park until the summer of 2012 :

JP

How does it feel to have your future with Carlisle sorted?

FZ

I am happy that I have signed an extension for one year more. I like it here, I play with good players, I think I am relaxed, not relaxed but my head now has more concentration on the pitch because I know my future with Carlisle is OK.

JP

How important have the fans at Carlisle been in your decision to stay here?

FZ

It is important because sometimes I don't play good but everybody says 'come on, Francois', it is football but this is important. Because everybody needs the fans to like you but now I can give back to the fans to help the team. If I don't score then help the team to win, this is more important now, it is not only play for myself, it is more important to help my team every week to take the three points.

JP

How grateful are you to Greg Abbott, your manager, for giving you the chance at Carlisle?

FZ

He told me when I came here on the first day for the trial that it would be difficult because it would be run, run all the time on the first day. I don't walk, I give all, it is difficult but I give all because I think that if he sees this then he thinks that this player can stay here.

Every time he speaks to me he wants to try to speak French, it is important when you are new in one place it is good when everybody speaks with you. In the changing room, the players, the manager, it is good for your confidence for me and the team.

JP

What is better, Francois's English or Greg Abbott's French?

FZ

I won't play in the rest of the games if I say. I speak English good and his French is not bad, he speaks not very good but he can speak with me in French. But, I think my English is a bit better.

JP

How settled are you in this part of the world, in Cumbria, in Carlisle? How much do you like it here?

FZ

I know Carlisle is not a big city, but it is nice, it is nice. If you need something you can have everything that is here, but I don't move here, I go and see other place near Carlisle.

JP

You have got another 18 months contract, a year and a half, what do you hope to achieve over that period? How do you hope to continue to get better and play more?

FZ

I hope the first time the teams wins a lot of games. We have the team for playing at the higher division, we have the team for go higher, but we need only believe in ourselves. This is important, the coach can believe, the fans can believe but if the player not believe then is not possible. I think when we can do this, we will win the next game after the next game, we will have the confidence, it is more easy for everybody.

JP

They like Francois so much in Carlisle, what does that mean to you?

FZ

When the fans like you, when you find the fans like this it is more, you can do more, you can give more, it is important for me, and I think so for every player.

JP

Merci, Francois.

FZ

I am sorry for my English, I try to speak English but I think after two or three months it is better.
