Eric Kinder - Radio Cumbria Interview

Carlisle United youth team boss Eric Kinder spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria on Friday evening as he talked about his side's FA Youth Cup tie coming up against Manchester United in January, Kinder first mentioning how stern a test Brighton gave the Red Devils on Thursday night :

" For 60 minutes I was getting worried about not only playing Brighton but for 60 minutes they looked a very, very good side. They are in the same group as us in the Youth Alliance Cup, obviously in the Southern Section and my mind was going on to thinking that we are not a bad side and I want to give it a right good bash at winning the Alliance Cup. I can see us playing Brighton in the final and we'll have a hell of a game on our hands if we do.

" They had some good players did Brighton, they just ran out of legs in the second-half. Manchester United capitalised on that and it could have been any score in the second-half to be fair but they were not a bad side weren't Brighton, I was quite impressed with them.

" There has no date been fixed yet for the Manchester United match, it's their home game, it's up to them to contact us. Christine who sorts out all our fixtures for us, I asked her late tonight and they had had no contact with Manchester United so it will probably get done early next week. I can see it being the week leading round-about up to the 17th of January.

" We've got Burnley tomorrow in a top-of-the-table game for us, then we come back home to Chester on January the 5th and then we have got Accrington Stanley. So we have probably got three league games before then, it's going to be really difficult keeping these lads' feet on the floor. Because they are 16 or 17, if I'm being honest it's hard enough to keep my feet on the floor at the moment, it's been a terrific week for us.

" First of all the FA Youth Cup is a fantastic competition and it always has been and I would imagine it always will be. You start getting noticed, it's incredible the press that we have had this week, not only yourselves but the News and Star and Border Television have rung up today asking if I want to do an interview for their sports programme just before we play.

" It's amazing what we've done, we've gone through two rounds and then we've beaten an Academy side on penalties. The interest that this competition generates, not only for Carlisle but for every small Centre of Excellence is fantastic. They deserve it, the players certainly deserve it, my recruitment for next season hopefully will be made a little bit easier because everybody will hopefully, everyone I go for, will want to come to Carlisle because we are getting ourselves a decent name now. "
