Blues striker Derek Holmes
United frontman Derek Holmes spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Saturday evening as he gave his thoughts on the home win over Port Vale. Holmes commenting on the way it was a classic game of two halves :

" It was fantastic today, I thought the lads actually played quite well in the first half and were a bit unfortunate to go 2-0 down, but I think when I came on that we got the goal at the right time. I wasn't in at half-time but I gather the manager (Neil McDonald) said to just keep doing what you are doing because the lads were doing really well and they scored with two breakaways.

" We came out in the second half and just played away, kept the fight going and we managed to get the goals. The team spirit is great, you could see that in the second half, maybe last season we might have fallen away a little bit but we showed great character today and it was an excellent three points. It was nice to score, it was my first league goal of the season and it's always nice to score, on a personal note it was fantastic.

" When I come on I just come on to do my best, hopefully manage to score and change things around, and luckily today I managed to do that. It was a great three points and it was great for the supporters as well. The fans were fantastic and they have been all season, in the two and a half years I've been here they've been great to me, they turn up week in week out and they've been fantastic, so it's a big thanks to them as well.

" The new manager has come in and set his stall out and it's been fantastic, you can see the boys are fit and they all work for each other so it's been great. Hopefully he'll be nice to us now and he'll give us a day off, we're just looking forward to a bit of a break now and hopefully when we come back we can keep the run going. "
