United assistant manager Dennis Booth spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips on Tuesday evening after Carlisle's 1-0 Carling Cup victory at home to Oldham, Booth obviously pleased with Scott Dobie's 88th minute winning header :

" After Saturday's result you want to get winning and it is the Carling Cup and we want to go as far as we can in the cup. It was important that we got a result tonight though for the players' confidence. We started very nervously again, we said to the players that they had got to be braver with their play, but gradually as the game went on to be fair in the second-half I thought that we were the only side that looked like they were going to score.

" There is always that doubt though isn't there that they might break away, things seem to go against you when you are having a bit of a spell like we have had. It was a great finish from Scott Dobie though and it was thoroughly deserved.

" Defending is something that we have worked on, in pre-season I know that we were playing against some top quality sides but we were conceding too many goals. On Saturday there were another three goals so the important thing is that you need to keep clean sheets because, as we have proved tonight, we can score goals and we are creating chances.

" If you are conceding goals then you have got a problem so we are all pleased with that. I think that Lenny (Pidgeley) made one good save but as a back four, and as a team, you have to defend. As a team you win together and you lose together and as a team we were on about people defending from the front. We got that clean sheet but we can't rest on that now, we have got to push on from here.

" Tom (Taiwo) is willing to do the ugly side, as I often say to players myself there is the other side of the game when you haven't got the ball. It is OK when you have got the ball but you have to do things when you are out of possession. You have got to work hard and close down and we have been certainly talking about that in training and working on that. "

" It's about putting your body on the line, throwing yourselves at balls and throwing yourselves at headers. That is what we have done and we have kept the clean sheet because we do create chances. We have created chances on Saturday and here tonight, and it is question of putting them in the net, but we are pleased with the clean sheet because that gives you a lot of confidence.

" I wasn't here at the weekend, I was on my travels, but I have seen the video of the Brentford game. The goals were very sloppy, they were terrible goals to give away at any level, I don't care what level you are. Tonight we have looked more solid as an outfit, we haven't conceded early on which we had a problem with, conceding early goals.

" Again though, we started slowly tonight and that is something that we have got to have a look at. I think that was more a little bit of nervousness and edginess, playing at home and wanting to get a good result. Once we got over that period though then I thought that we played very well. Obviously we would have liked to convert those chances that we created into goals and we would have won more comfortably, but that is something that we are going to work on.

" Tense endings are going to happen, you are not always going to win by three and four goals. When you get that goal in front though then you have got to know how to defend it sensibly and I thought that we did that very well. We want to win football matches and keep clean sheets, but convert some of those chances into goals.

" They (Millwall) are a tough side, I saw the game on Saturday on the television where I was at and they are a big strong side. It is a difficult place to go to is Millwall, but we are capable of that. That will give us a massive boost tonight so there is no reason why we can't go there, we were very unlucky last year to go there and only lose 1-0 in injury time. "

" So that will give us confidence but we have got to build on that, it is no good just sitting back down and thinking that that was a good result. No, we have got to push on from here and get our season up and running.

" It is nice when your strikers score the goals, that is what they are there for. We know Scott Dobie's work-rate and we know how honest a player he is. He probably should have scored in the first-half with a header but he didn't.

" It didn't get him down though, he kept getting in the box and he could have had a couple more but he got his rewards at the end with a very good header from a great ball from David Raven. So if you keep plugging away at this game and you keep working at it then you will get your rewards, and Dobes has done very well tonight and we are well pleased with him.

" As I understand it I think that Cleveland (Taylor) is meeting the Brentford people, that is as far as I know, but we will have to see what the outcome is of that. We are looking for players, that is what I am doing all the time, the people and the scouts, we are out there monitoring players and we are working really hard to get people in.

" Hopefully by Saturday something should be done with that but we are always searching and looking so we never stop doing that, but we wish Cleveland all the best, he has been a great lad for us and good luck to him. It could be both upfront and the right that we get someone. "
