Old and new United assistant manager Dennis Booth spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria on Tuesday evening as he talked about the bizarre happenings of the last two days :

" Strange actually because things have happened so quickly. It was only Friday night I met up with all the staff and had a drink with them on Friday evening because they were playing Walsall. Then the following morning I was going down to MK Dons to watch them play Bury who Carlisle play in the League Cup. So events have changed so rapidly it's amazing, you think you've seen a lot of things in football but things still come up and surprise you.

" I'm really pleased to be back at a club that I have some very fond memories of and made me very welcome. The fans and everything, my family came and loved the club, it's nice to be back and hopefully I can help Greg (Abbott) and the club to greater things. That's what my objective is, to come in and help Greg and obviously continue the good work that has gone on in the last year or so. They had a very good season last season and hopefully we can push on from there.

" Greg will obviously want the job and it depends on how we work together and what Greg wants. Anything more permanent would be an opportunity for me but you never know in football, you can't look too far ahead, I'm just concentrating on the job in hand at the moment. If that occurred then obviously I'd be very happy with that.

" I've known Greg through football mainly, I've not been in his company very often. He was a young player when I was coming to the end of my career at Hull City with Brian Horton. Infact I believe at one time we tried to get Greg into Hull City when he was at Bradford as we were impressed with him on a number of occasions. I certainly know about his pedigree and his football, as for having worked together and getting to know people that is something we'll be trying to do as quickly as we can.

" I had a good chat with him on Saturday morning before they left to go to play the game and I left. I think we can be OK and I hope I can give him the experience that he needs. I saw some of the players on Friday evening, some of the others I know about, I've not met them but obviously that's another thing, I've to get to know them and vice-versa but that's not a problem I don't think.

" I've got my scouting hat on tonight so I'll be going to a game tonight, then I'm obviously looking forward to getting started on Thursday morning. It's a smashing little club, lovely ground, great fans, I remember the dark days when we couldn't win a raffle never mind a football match but they stuck with the football club through thick and thin. In the end they were rewarded I hope with the two successive promotions we got so let's hope there is more to come. They deserve it and it's a super little club, I'm just glad to be on board and hopefully help them achieve some success again. "
