David Raven
United defender David Raven spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria on Friday evening ahead of Carlisle's home match against Brighton tomorrow, Raven first chatting about his role in his United's winning goal at Nottingham Forest on Monday night :

" My pass was actually meant for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, he was about three yards to my left and then started a run forward and I thought that I would dink it in there for him. Him being lazy as he is he didn't go for it and it ended up actually a decent ball in the end because it was just in that dodgy area where should the keeper come or the defender go. It turned out to be a goal.

" It was a massive result but in the grand scheme of things it's only three points, you've got to look at it like that and we've got to get three points against Brighton. That's just as important tomorrow, if not more important considering where we are now. For morale it was great and it was a good advert for League One football as well. It showed everyone what we are capable of as well.

" I think the lads didn't get stage-fright at all, because it was live on SKY and there was a full house there. The lads thrived on it really, you have just got to put it behind you now and concentrate on the next game. It was a great result for us but it's just three points.

" We've got a good record against the top teams in this division, don't ask me why that is because I can't put my finger on it. We just seem to, even down at Swansea, it was a good performance by us and we were unlucky to lose it in the end. Our record against the top teams is great and we can hold our own, it's just getting results against the so-called lesser teams. Every game is a top game anyway in this division but getting results against the Luton's of this world is tough.

" We had a meeting in midweek, the manager (John Ward) reminded us that it was just one game and we've got to play Forest at home still. We've got some massive games to come but I think the focus is generally there because it's the business end of the season. The lads are focusing on the ultimate goal of play-offs and promotion so I think it should be quite easy for the lads to get focused really. "

" I wasn't very happy with some of my performances last year, it took me too long to settle in really. I've been quite pleased this year, although there have been too many bad games that we have had over the season really where across Christmas we could have got a few more points and better performances really. For myself though I've just got to keep up the hard work and keep fighting for my place.

" I didn't have any complaints when I got dropped, every footballer gets dropped. Obviously I knocked on his (Ward's) door and went to speak to him but I didn't complain. (Paul) Arnison had been waiting for his chance and he's a good player, he works hard in training and he's got a great attitude, he's a great lad. It was time for him to get his chance and I just held my hands up, I thought it was a fair one, but I really worked hard and luckily for me the manager has put me in early doors. It's worked out quite nicely for me really.

" I don't know if I'm a centre-half, it's up to the manager, it's up to anyone, it's up to my coaches really where they want to play me. I'll play left-midfield if they want me to play there but I can't really say, I just enjoy playing anywhere in defence. I class myself as a defender really, I think the only thing that is not going for me as a centre-back is my height in this division.

" Because there are a lot of big bruisers and maybe that is a factor contributing to the fact that I don't play there, I don't know. I enjoy myself at right-back though, I like bombing on and stuff like that so I'll play anywhere the manager wants me to play.

" He (Cleveland Taylor) has been brilliant, his performances have been great. He works hard to get back as well but sometimes I get the ball and I've just got to give it to him and he can take players on which is brilliant for the rest of the team and not only me. He has done really well since he has come in. "
