United chief executive David Allen spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria on Tuesday afternoon about the roadworks on Warwick Road which promise to cause a headache for the opening game of the season against Brentford this weekend :

" It is a really big game for us on Saturday, it is the first game of the season and it is at home. What we do think is that the roadworks are going to cause a lot of problems but they are not actually going to stop people coming to the games, we are sure of that. The fans are still going to come but what we are recommending is that fans set off early, the roadworks are causing problems, they are causing problems now so they are going to cause a lot of problems on Saturday.

" So please can fans set off early, give themselves plenty of time and you can always come and spend money in the shop or at the club if you are here and you have time to kill. The main thing is that people coming from the west, there is a lot of confusion because people can't turn left on the top of Georgian Way to come down into Victoria Place, so they have got to carry on and then turn down Warwick Road. Then they come back round and follow the signs for Stoneyholme Golf Club and come into the back gate into the club, that is the best way for anybody coming from the west.

" From the east there is a little bit of confusion there because at the moment the signs are diverting people along Eastern Way through Botcherby and then down Victoria Road and back onto Warwick Road. They can then come in the front door of the club, a lot of people are not following those signs and are actually just carrying on through the roadworks and they can get right through.

" So we are at the moment trying to confirm with United Utilities exactly what is the position for the game on Saturday. To find out whether people will be able to carry on through the roadworks and come straight up Warwick Road from the east and turn into the ground, or whether there will be diverted around Eastern Way, Botcherby and back down Victoria Road. "
