Workington boss Darren Edmondson spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria on Monday evening after his side's comprehensive 3-1 win at home to a strong Carlisle team tonight, Edmondson hoping that the Reds can now take some confidence into their Conference North season :

" That was a good result and a good workout for us. The lads can take a lot of confidence from the way that they played. Especially in the first-half I thought that they passed the ball really, really well. The work-ethic was as it always is from them, which is second to none. I think that is what really set Carlisle back a little bit, the way that we worked hard, closed them down and didn't let them play.

" Last year we tried to pass the ball in the right areas and get them to pass and move. We are not a giant team so the only way we can really get the best from the players is for them to pass the ball on the deck, and they did that brilliantly tonight.

" I've just pointed it out to them that Saturday's game will be a totally different kettle of fish. They (Hinckley) will be physical, strong and very direct but that doesn't mean to say that we have got to change our game. We have got to have the belief that when the pitches are good like they are now, that we can get the ball down and pass with the same work-rate and work-ethic and get about teams.

" You can't get carried away, tonight was a pre-season game, and all due respect to Carlisle, they have brought a strong team. Whether they were right at it is a different matter, but we have got to take some confidence out of that and some belief and take that into Saturday's game. Hopefully we can kick-start with a couple of wins early on and who knows. "

" It's not for me to judge John Ward's team but from my point of view, everybody, I said that to them before, although I have picked a team to play tonight it was never going to be guaranteed, everybody wasn't nailed on. The starting eleven were fantastic though and have staked a claim for next Saturday. We have a training session on Thursday, I have still got to speak to the whole squad about who is going to travel next Saturday, but everybody has got to take confidence from that performance tonight.

" Squad depth is always a case at this level and we haven't got the biggest squad in the world. The four boys that came on are all under 21, so in one aspect it is good for the club but for the immediate future we would like to have a little bit more experience in there. We brought Kevin Gray in for that purpose and he unfortunately needs an operation on his knee so we won't see him for a while. Hopefully though, injury-free that starting eleven, and we had a couple missing tonight for whatever reason. We won't be a million miles away if we keep the work-ethic that we have used.

" We didn't want to lose Michael Reed but he has made his mind up to go and play at a lower level for some reason. We wish Reedy all the best though, and Dan (Robinson) has come in and taken his chance well. He has got good movement, he is lively, he is a little bit like Michael in that he gets across people in the penalty area and he could have scored a couple tonight.

" We get used to long trips now with the setting off from across here. We're looking forward to it, this has obviously lifted everybody and hopefully lifted the fans. We have got two home games next week as well after Hinckley, so if we can go and take some points off Hinckley, then the two home games, then I'm sure that the fans will be right behind us after today's performance. Who knows what can happen from there with a good start. "
