Portsmouth striker Danny Webber spoke to the official Pompey website and The News after his side's 3-1 Carling Cup win over Carlisle at Brunton Park, Webber understandably happy that Portsmouth managed to get their first win of the season on the board :

" It was very important today that we got a win, we have got to get used to winning ways again and we dug out a nice result there. It was just to stop the rot really, it doesn't matter who is put in front of you - to win the game is the most important thing and hopefully we can kick on from here. The lads have been working hard in every game, but have not had the rub of the green.

" We just need the belief, it is a belief thing, no matter what you are always going to have your doubters but as long as within ourselves we believe then I am sure we have got enough quality and enough strength in the squad to dig ourselves out of it. It was early in the game when we went behind, we just thought that it was time to roll our sleeves up and battle away. Luckily we got two goals before half-time and kicked on from there really.

" I am not really known for headed goals but I saw Hassan (Yebda) was trying to get the ball in, so I just worked a bit of space and managed to get my head on it. Obviously I wouldn't have come here if I didn't think I could play in the Premier League, you don't go somewhere you are not confident in producing the goods.

" That was my first game in a good few months, fitness-wise I have been a little bit behind but I am working hard and I am hoping to feature. I enjoy it here, I think that when you go somewhere you are enjoying your football then you settle in quite quickly. It is a good set of lads, everybody at the club has been very warm and has helped me settle in easily, so I feel like I have been here for a while now."

" It was my first 90 minutes in a while - in a long while in fact! I enjoyed it though, but I was a bit tired by the end. To be honest, I just enjoyed being back out there. It was a buzz to be out there playing with my new team-mates and playing for Portsmouth. The goal was important for me and I was pleased with it.

" Every day I'm working hard in training. I want my fitness levels to be up there so there are no excuses. I just want to be out there on the football pitch as much as I possibly can be. I'll keep my head down and work hard in training, and if that impresses the gaffer enough to put me in the team, then that is great.

" I started up front and then played at the front end of the diamond. I think I was floating all over the place to be honest! It was all hands to the pump to get the result we wanted. It doesn't matter who plays where, as long as everyone is putting a shift in. At times it wasn't pretty tonight but sometimes it doesn't need to be pretty when you are in a position where you need the results.

" So I think the fighting spirit showed through and we have got to carry that on into Saturday now. If we could eradicate silly little mistakes throughout the whole season, or certainly since I have been here, then we wouldn't be in the position we are in. I think that is the main thing, the concentration, the belief in what we do and eradicate the mistakes and we will be fine. "
