Chris PowellAddicks boss Chris Powell spoke to BBC London 94.9 and his club's official website after his side's 1-0 win at Brunton Park against Carlisle that gained Charlton automatic promotion from League One, Powell proud for everyone involved :

"It has been a long old season and I am really proud for everyone connected with Charlton tonight, We have worked ever so hard for this, and after I came in last year and had six months at the helm I knew that it would be a long, long summer, and it was. But, myself and all my staff, and all my players and supporters have been richly rewarded today.

"All the training and all the hard work culminated in our performance today and we were tested I have got to say by Carlisle. But, I am proud that Bradley Wright-Phillips got the goal for us and we have been tremendous away from home, and all season we have played some really good football and some determined football when our backs have been against the wall.

"Bradley could have had more today, he had a one v one saved by their goalkeeper (Adam Collin), but he is always a threat and always a danger. Not only his goals, but Yann Kermorgant playing up alongside him and our captain Johnnie Jackson. But, not only them, the back four and my goalkeepers have played their part in our success this year and they have all played their part.

"So, another clean sheet today and that is what you want, they hit the post and it was a fantastic effort by their lads, they are a good team and we knew that, but I am really happy today. They have really shown a togetherness and I am emotional for them because they have really worked hard to have a day like this and it is a proud moment for me."

"It plays with your emotions sometimes as a manager that you want to choose the right eleven and the right substitutes. I am always sitting up at home, I think my wife and children must wonder what is going on with me at times. But, you think deeply about the game and about your team and you want them to do well and you wonder if you have got it right and set them up right, and I think I have done that more often than not this year.

"It is a different sort of feeling for me because I can see all my players getting so excited afterwards, admittedly they were quite nervy before the game and during the first-half. But, that is expected because they are a young group and they knew that they were so close and within touching distance of having something superb on their CVs.

"When you are a player you can go out there and affect it, when you are a manager you can affect it before the game and at half-time but that is it. You can't put the ball in the net and you can't keep it out. I have put my full trust in all of them this year and they have had a real belief in themselves and everyone has played their part no matter how big or small.

"There are some lads that are not here today, Danny Hollands, Danny Green, they didn't travel up and they have played a huge part in our season. A lot of our fans couldn't make it up here either, it is a long, long way, but I am really happy that they will be listening or watching and feeling really proud and I hope they raise a glass to our football club.

"At the end I know the ones here got excited and we want to share the moment with them, but to come all this way is great for them. It is a hat-trick of promotions at Carlisle in our history, so I am really, really happy that our fans were here to share the moment. Because, it is a big moment for us in the rebirth of our club, we have had it tough, everyone knows that and I knew that."

"I think everyone was talking about the Premier League when I came back last year and I kind of had to say to everyone that we are in League One. This is the deal, we are in League One and we have got to get out together, it has been a real team effort, a real club effort. Not just individual players, everyone has played their part, the staff, the supporters, the support staff, people at our club, our training ground, they have really bought into me.

"I knew that would be the big key to it and at times when things don't go so well, we lost to Colchester and we lost to Notts County, that is where you have just got to keep calm and know that the bigger picture is that you are going to lose one or two games out of 46. But, for us to be talking about being promoted now with 94 points with three games to go is just a great, great day and a great achievement for Charlton Athletic.

"The Championship now is something for us to look forward to, we have always felt that we had a chance, but the two Sheffield clubs have been on a tremendous run and they kept the pressure on, but we stood up to that. I am sure the board will be thinking that we can look at the other clubs that have made the step up, Norwich being one and Southampton being very close now.

"But, it is about what we do and what sort of football club we are, we can't emulate them, or we might be able to, but we have got to do what we have got to do, although there might be teams that we look up to. For me so early in my managerial career to take a team up from any division is a big achievement for any football manager, and it has come very early for me.

"If I surpass this then I will be doing very, very well, but I want to be a success and today is just a small step in what I want to do in my career. We have got three games now to look forward to, we have got Wycombe at home next Saturday which I am sure will be a great day for all our supporters, but we still want to carry on winning games and finish off in the right manner, and I think that would only be right for the season we have had."
