Speaking exclusively to www.buryfc.co.uk ex-Wigan, Tranmere and Chester manager and current Bury coach Ray Mathias spoke about the 1-0 home defeat to Carlisle, saying :

" It's obviously disappointing to concede the goal, that's the most disappointing thing. We never got to grips with their strikers all night and they caused endless amounts of problems. We pointed out to the lads before the game that teams have been catching us out on the break and again tonight, they have caught us out on the break for the goal.

" From our throw in around their penalty area, they have scored the goal and it's very disappointing indeed. Neil Edwards was superb and made some very good saves in the first half. It's up to the players now to get going, we never passed the ball well like we know they can do in the first half, they stuttered in the second half and couldn't handle their strikers.

"From where I was, we should have had the penalty, it looked as though the boy had fallen and put his hand on the ball to stop it moving away from him. The linesman was in a clear position to make the right decision, but he's not done that.

" You look at the goal on Monday and the referee has disallowed it, and the incident today, its bad luck. Over the run of the season you get your fair share of luck but at the moment, everything is going against us.

" You can't blame the effort, tonight was an overall mixture, one or two lads are lacking that little bit of confidence, we went the goal down and we didn't have that confidence to pick ourselves up and get going again. Heads went down after the goal and soon after we started ticking again and got some great crosses into the box and unfortunately didn't get anyone on the end of them.

" We have to lift the players again now, we've had a lot of games in the week and we have to make sure that come the next game that the confidence is high. There has been some good performances tonight, Simon Whaley down the right did exceptionally well, but we had problems at the back and we have got to sort that out.

" We are not keeping clean sheets. They are in a disciplined job and at the moment, they are just not doing it. It's a matter of controlling the player you are playing against and at the moment, we are just not doing that. We've been working on getting players into the box for Simon's crosses, but we didn't do it. The players will be in on Sunday now and we will sort this out, one way or the other. "
