Blues Keeper Adam Collin On The Match

Last updated : 10 April 2012 By Thetashkentterror

Adam Collin2United stopper Adam Collin (AC) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) following Carlisle's 0-0 League One draw at home to Scunthorpe, Collin saying the game got a bit frustrating for the Cumbrians :

JP

Not a great deal for you to do today, how frustrating was it?

AC

Yeah, it was a bit frustrating standing at the other end watching all the balls going into the box and all the chances we had, and it gets a bit frustrating but you have just got to keep concentrating.

JP

Chris Lumsdon and Greg Abbott have been talking about mental and physical fatigue and maybe that just had a bit of an effect on you boys today?

AC

Maybe a little bit yeah, we have done a lot of travelling recently and played a lot of games. But, I think we were the better team today, we were on top for the majority of the game and it was just one of those days where the ball is not going to go in the net for us, and it is a bit frustrating as I say.

JP

Yeah, Lee Miller, you will have been speaking to him after the match, what has he been like in the dressing room? The news from Greg Abbott at the moment seems like it might not be great?

AC

Yeah, it didn't look too good, he wasn't moving very well in the dressing room so we will just have to wait and see what the scan results show.

JP

Yeah, a tricky one, Chris Chantler though down on the touchline I just noticed right at the end of the match, he seems like he is OK, any chance he could be back in fairly soon?

AC

I think he is another one who is going to have a scan and see how his hamstring is coming on. He might make it back in a week, it just depends on the results again on the scan.

JP

How big of an issue is sort of the pressure on you players as a squad? When you are up on the edge of a play-off position like this you can see it in your grasp but all of a sudden instead of being the plucky Carlisle who are going to have a go, all of a sudden it is in your hands, how much does that weigh on your minds?

AC

Erm, I suppose it does a little but, but it is just a case of we are on a real good run of games at the minute, unbeaten run, and it is just a case of going out every game, taking one game at at time and just trying to pick up points. You have got to stay in and around the play-offs and I think it looks like it is going to be between us and Notts County now, Stevenage are starting to drop off. So, it is just a case of taking one game at a time and trying to pick up points and staying unbeaten.

JP

Yeah, Notts County have edged Carlisle out of the play-offs but still with that game in hand could still move three points ahead of them, six points ahead of Brentford in the closing pack, Stevenage held as well today, so everyone is suffering, Notts County seem to have picked up a bit of form though?

AC

Yeah, they have got a big squad and obviously a new manager recently in there, so they have picked up a bit of form and they are right on our tails. But, if we can take advantage of our game in hand then I am sure we can get back in the play-offs.

JP

When you go into these games does it weigh on your mind what has gone before? Can you move on to the next match quickly?

AC

We have got no choice really, you have got to. We were obviously disappointed on Friday to let a late goal in but it is just one of those things, it happens, we move on and I think we showed today that we played really, really well. It just wouldn't fall for us in the box and it was just one of those days.

JP

And if you need any sort of a lift, I am not saying you as players do but maybe the fans might here at Brunton Park for the next game, what better than the champions elect coming to town?

AC

Yeah, I mean they have been head and shoulders above the rest of the league and we can just hopefully get another big crowd. The crowd today was a good crowd and if we can get up towards 7,000 in behind us supporting us then I am sure we could do really well against them.

JP

And do you feel that it takes just a touch of pressure off when you get teams that come here who are expected to beat you, where you can be almost maybe the underdogs if not quite?

AC

Yeah, I think that is the case you know, when sort of like the so-called bigger teams come here they play more open football to what the lower league teams do and it sometimes makes it more easy for us to play our passing game and get inbetween them a bit more yeah.

JP

From having taken the route that you have in football, to have this opportunity to be in the play-offs with a Cumbrian side like this, what would it mean to you and what would it mean to the players to have this opportunity?

AC

Oh, it would mean a hell of a lot, you can just see that the crowds have suddenly picked up now that we are in the play-offs and everybody is buzzing. The dressing room is buzzing, it is full of confidence even though we have drawn the last two games we still think we can get something against Charlton, and it will mean a great deal to get in the play-offs, so we are doing really well.

JP

And I believe that you have got a couple of days off now, I bet you could do with that?

AC

Yeah, we are looking forward to them, it has been a hard schedule, we have got a really hard week next week with the three games. But, the gaffer (Greg Abbott) has given us a couple of days off just to rest and get our legs back.
