United goalkeeper Ben Williams spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Thursday morning about his own form at the moment, Williams also talking about how he has settled in at Brunton Park since his move from Crewe in the summer :

" I understand that I am under pressure and under scrutiny. If things happen, mistakes happen, I make mistakes then I am my own biggest critic. You can have outside influences but they are not going to influence me and the way that I play. You are always under pressure every day to perform in training, you are under pressure every weekend in front of fans. You have a natural pressure that you put on yourself, competitiveness that you have to.

" If I make mistakes and there is something that I am totally not happy with then I don't need people to tell me. I understand that, people are more than welcome to their opinion, fans pay good money to watch football and they expect those sorts of things to not happen. So do I though, you don't set out to make them and obviously it is very disappointing when you do.

" The position that I am in, if I do make a mistake then nine times out of ten that results in a goal or it can be costly, like in the Tranmere game it has probably cost us a point and Scunthorpe probably cost us a point. There are times when people can argue that you make saves in games and that sort of thing that balances out on the whole of it. That is not the important thing though, the important thing is the result and the team.

" If something that I do, a mistake that I do, costs my teammates then obviously that is a killer blow for me. People say that it goes with the territory, goes with the position, you have to be strong enough to deal with that. I think that the important thing is that if you make a mistake then you accept that you make it, you study why you made it and you don't make it again. "

" It is one of those things that you need to work on, you learn on, people make mistakes every game, it is just that in my position you get punished. I accept that and that is the way that it is, I chose to be the one who goes in goal and I chose to be the one who can earn you points, and unfortunately sometimes can be the one that costs you.

" It is swings and roundabouts and if goals go in at the other end then you don't have anything to do. There are times though when you have to accept that you are going to get a pat on the back, like the Rochdale game when we played away. People will pat you on the back and say well done and well played today.

" Then there are times like the Tranmere game when you make a bad judgement, a goal goes in and it ends up in the grand scheme of things costing your team a point. A point can be very important and also it sets up my weekend and it sets up the fans' weekend, I'm sure that the fans are then upset all weekend. It definitely upsets my whole weekend and I am waiting then to get into training on Monday to get over it and learn from it and see what I can do.

" I don't think that it was a steep learning curve going into the first-team straight away. I have played pretty much every league game for Crewe in the last two seasons. It is just a position where unfortunately you do have to learn quickly, but unfortunately you can't cater for everything.

" You still see now England goalkeepers, David James at 36, a terrific goalkeeper but he will still make mistakes. It is just one of those things, it comes with the territory. The secret of it is that the good goalkeepers don't make them often and if they do make them then they learn from them, that is where your learning curve comes in. "
