United chairman Andrew Jenkins spoke to Mike Parr on the BBC Radio Cumbria breakfast show this morning, Jenkins looking back on Carlisle's 3-1 FA Cup third round defeat at Goodison Park against Everton on Saturday :

" Eight minutes to go wasn't there or something like that and we had just hit the crossbar. In fairness their chairman thought we were going to do it because he is in the theatre Bill Kenwright and he turned to me and said that it wasn't in the script. We did think we were going to get a draw but it wasn't to be, but it was still very good to be there and a tremendous performance.

" They thought we deserved a replay at least, I think we showed at times, like you people have said - we looked like the Premier League side most of the game, or a lot of the game anyway. Just disappointed but it was a really good performance and the players did the club and the city proud. The one thing I would like to say is about the supporters because the supporters are so important to a football club. They absolutely got behind the team and they were absolutely tremendous, so well done to them.

" We have brought in these two young midfield players (Adam Clayton and Tom Taiwo) and Vincent Pericard and one way or another we have managed to get results. I think we have only now with this result, we have lost 3 in 15 so it isn't bad, but the whole club is working together after we had a bad start to turn it around, and we think we have turned it around.

" They aren't accurate figures but we have made in excess of £100,000 from the Everton game, £100,000 to £150,000 I would think, but to get things realistic that pays one month's wages. Also we have lost this fixture on Boxing Day and probably when it is replayed it could cost us £20,000 I would think. I think we are showing a small profit so far this season but it is very important for us not to lose money this year after the disaster last year.

" There is a great camaraderie down there between the players and it can't do anything but good. We feel that we can make the play-offs, we have got to feel that haven't we. The manager (Greg Abbott) goes out to pick a team to win every game and the run that we have been on, we just feel that we could do it. The only problem is going to be if we get a pile up of fixtures or injuries but we will have to face all that and cope with it the best way we can. "
