Adam Collin
United goalkeeper Adam Collin (AC) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) after Carlisle's 4-3 penalty shootout Johnstone's Paint Trophy victory over Port Vale at Brunton Park, Collin saving two spot-kicks after the scores had finished level at 2-2 after 90 minutes :

JP

Adam, you are becoming somewhat of a penalty hero for Carlisle?

AC

Yeah, it is the third time now so it is something I am decent at.

JP

When you saw Craig Curran of course miss the opening penalty for Carlisle United, it took you to get Carlisle United back into it, and of course four pretty decent penalties from (Kevan) Hurst, (James) Berrett, (Matty) Robson and (Frank) Simek.

AC

Yeah, we took good penalties obviously apart from Craig's as you say. But, it sort of summed up the whole night, going behind and then coming back.

JP

Yeah, absolutely, you did that in the shootout, you did that in the game as well. If you just look at my notes here, take out the penalty shootout, Port Vale didn't have a great deal in terms of chances, a great deal of fortune with their opener and just a pretty good goal I guess in their second. Did you feel at that stage, even 75 minutes in, that it just wasn't going to be Carlisle's night?

AC

Obviously when you go 2-0 down in the second-half there is a little bit of doubt creeps in but with the strength of our bench and the players we could bring on, we always stand a chance of coming back.

JP

What did you make of the comeback as well? Two goals in five minutes after you hadn't scored since the 21st of August here at Brunton Park.

AC

It just sums up our team at the minute, we keep going, we are a strong bunch of lads, we are a strong unit and we work hard to the last minute. With the players we can bring on and the spirit in the team we always had a good chance.

JP

What does this competition mean to you? Of course you were part of that side that made it all the way to Wembley last year with penalty shootouts abounding all the way.

AC

It is a big competition for me and the whole team, it is obviously where I made my debut for the club last season. I pulled out a couple of saves in two penalty shootouts and it is a great day out at Wembley, so it is a big competition.

JP

League remains the priority though and Notts County next up, and Carlisle will really want to get back to winning ways and exciting ways I would have thought here?

AC

Yeah, definitely, the league is important, especially with the start we have got. We are fourth in the table and we don't fear anybody in the league. So, it is obviously going to be a hard game but one we look forward to with confidence.

JP

What about Notts County? The world's oldest professional football club, great to see them back at this level of football and they will be hoping for even higher, but you will have to try to stop them at the weekend.

AC

Yeah, it is not going to be easy, they had a bit of a dodgy start but they have started to turn things around and they have won a few games and are heading towards the right end of the table now, so it will be a difficult game.

JP

What is the squad feeling like after this one?

AC

Relief, confidence still though, but we know where we went wrong tonight and we just need to put that right on Saturday.
