New United goalkeeper Adam Collin spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey after recently signing a two-year contract at Brunton Park, Collin also looking back on his time at Workington :

" I am glad to be here, this is what I have been working for since I was 11 probably when I started football at a Premiership club. All the ups and downs that I have had along the way and finally to sign my first professional contract, I am absolutely delighted.

" I am just from Penrith, just down the road from here, so I am local to the area. I started off at Castletown Junior Football Club and moved to Blackburn Rovers for three years there. Then Newcastle signed me while I was still at school and once I finished my GCSEs I went full-time there for three years. Then I was at Workington for five years and then finally ended up here.

" It is a massive step up for me here, Workington is just part-time and obviously this is full-time. The pace, the power, the fitness here compared to Workington is totally different. So it was a big step up but one that I am quite comfortable making.

" I am definitely competing with Ben Williams for the number one jersey, that is why I came here. I know that I have played full seasons for Workington and then I have not just come here to sit on the bench you know. I want to push Ben all the way and to hopefully become number one.

" I have hopefully got a good few years left in me until my peak, so hopefully I have got a long career ahead of me and I aim to go as high as I can. I throw myself around all over the place and plenty and shouting and talking to people.

" I have made a lot of friends at Workington and got to know everybody in and around the club and I really enjoyed my time there. So in one way it was difficult to leave but in one way it wasn't, this is what I want to do so I have got to go and do it.

" At Workington I obviously finished a week or two earlier than Carlisle so I gave myself a week or two off just to recuperate and then I am hitting the gym and doing a bit of and running and what have you. I am trying to get in good shape for the start of the season. "
