Dave Penney
Latics boss Dave Penney spoke to his club's official website and the Oldham Chronicle ahead of his side's League One game against Carlisle at Brunton Park tomorrow, Penney hoping for a win to take his side to almost certain safety from relegation :

" I have never set a target, but I would think we should be safe if we reach 50 points. We are quite capable of going anywhere and getting a positive result, and we will be sending out a team trying to win the game. We are playing well at the moment, especially away from home where our performances have been good.

" We will get the report of their game against Leeds before deciding which personnel we go with and send a team up there to win the game. Carlisle have a few injuries as well. With 54 points they can't go up and they can't go down either, but it will be a tough test as it was in the Carling Cup up there earlier in the season when it was fairly even.

" The system we play, whereby Dale (Stephens) sits in front of the back four, suits us while Lewis Guy can play either wide right or left and up front. Teams are slowly changing shapes and styles, and it gives the opposition something to think about. "

Meanwhile Latics midfielder Kieran Lee told the Oldham Chronicle :

" I think at the start of the MK Dons game on Tuesday we would have been happy with the point. But then, looking at how it panned out, we could easily have come away with all three. But we are happy with the draw and, looking at the other results on the night, most went our way. We will be looking to get all three points at Carlisle and I think we are capable of doing so. We need those points and a few more should see us safe. "

In team news for the Latics they have plenty of injury problems tomorrow with five players sidelined and one unlikely to start the game as he has only just returned to training. That being young Northern Irish winger Kirk Millar who has been out recently with a cramping in the calf problem, 17-year old Millar having made his debut for Linfield at the tender age of 15.

As for confirmed absentees, left-back Joe Jacobson heads the list as this week he underwent surgery on a pelvic problem, Jacobson having had a bi-lateral inguinal ligament release in his groin areas, which sounds like fun. Another player recovering from surgery at Boundary Park at the moment being versatile defender or midfielder Andy Holdsworth who went under the knife earlier in the season to cure a long-term knee injury.

Another midfielder missing for Oldham tomorrow will be Jim Goodwin who has been out with a torn thigh muscle for the last two months. Then onto the wings in that area of the pitch and Chris Taylor is out after picking up a small tear in his calf muscle against Bristol Rovers last Saturday, while Rob Purdie has been out all season with various ailments, the latest of those being an operation on his hip.

The referee for tomorrow's match is Army FA official Major Danny McDermid from Middlesex, and he will be assisted down the lines by Richard Clark from Morpeth and Jeremy Simpson from Carnforth. Meanwhile the fourth official is Danny Markham from Sunderland.
