Alex' utility player Danny Woodards spoke to BBC Radio Stoke and The Sentinel about tonight's match between Carlisle and Crewe at Gresty Road, Woodards picking out Graham Kavanagh as the United man to watch :

" There's a good atmosphere and the manager (Gudjon Thordarson) has done wonders with us. We've always had the squad, we've just needed that belief, and now that we've got it, we'll take on anyone. We think we can win every game. We're getting the luck now, we're playing well and we're scoring goals. We've brought a lot of teams into the mix with us now, and we just want to get as many points as we can.

" I'm happy to play wherever the gaffer picks me, but I've played in the middle when I was younger so I've adapted to it. I'm sitting in front of the defence and I could do with getting forward a bit more. Hopefully, I can get close to (Graham) Kavanagh and pressurise him. We've got two big games coming up against Carlisle and Hereford which we need to go out and win.

" It was a massive boost to win at Brighton with the other results going our way and we've brought a lot of teams down with us. We need to go on getting as many points as we can. The team is a lot fitter and we are not conceding the goals we did in the past. "

Crewe, like Carlisle, have quite a few injury problems ahead of tonight's game, giant centre-half Dennis Lawrence (cheek) and striker Tom Pope (ankle ligaments) both being out for at least a month to start with. Also sidelined are midfielder or right-back James Bailey (hip), midfielder Luke Murphy (ankle) winger Mark Carrington (back), and lanky striker Calvin Zola (groin).

On the disciplinary side of the coin Northern Irish international midfielder Michael O'Connor is also ruled out this evening, as he was against Brighton at the weekend and for a three-match spell earlier in the season, his latest punishment coming after what Alex' boss Gudjon Thordarson described as a "weekend incident." Another midfielder, in Kenny Lunt, is also in the Crewe doghouse at the moment after crying off a reserve game last Wednesday with sickness.

The referee for tonight's match is Mark Haywood from Leeds, and he will be assisted down the lines by Paul Thompson from Chesterfield and Mark Weaver from Halesowen in the West Midlands. Meanwhile the fourth official is Michael Denton from Todmorden on the Lancashire/West Yorkshire border.
