Gordon Greer

Seagulls skipper Gordon Greer spoke to the official Albion website ahead of his side's League One game against Carlisle at Brunton Park tomorrow, Greer ready to get going after first being suspended for the first two matches of the season, then missing out recently due to a calf injury :

" I've never experienced anything like this and now I just want to get going. I've been here for a couple of months and I can't wait to get playing again because it's been a disappointing start for me. I've only been sent-off twice in my whole career and it just so happens that they have come in back-to-back games. Then I picked up a niggle last week which added to the frustration, but now I'm desperate to get started.

" I was moving house that weekend with my wife and little girl and I think my legs were feeling a wee bit tired. I don't know if that is it or not but I've not had any muscular problems for a long time, so that's what I am putting it down to. It just happened really early on in the game, so as soon as I felt it I came straight off and I think that has helped me.

" My calf is getting there now though and I'm back in full training, so I'll have to wait and see if I get a reaction to the training and assess my fitness from there, ahead of the trip to Carlisle United. I've done loads of work on the training ground because I've been suspended, so I'm sick of training now and I just want to get back on the pitch, playing games.

" I don't expect to start. The boys were fantastic last week, so it will be tough to get back into the team. I'm just glad to be available for selection again. I'm not suspended or struggling with injury, so that's good.

" Saturday is going to be a great test for us, Carlisle have had a good start to the season, and Brunton Park is a really difficult place to go. But the boys are looking forward to every game at the moment and hopefully we can keep picking up results.

" They have showed so far this season they have a good squad of players, and they will be difficult opposition for us, but we are well capable of going there and getting a good result. We have been good recently, and I thought Saturday against MK Dons was our best performance so far. It was a good win against a good side, so we'll go into tomorrow's game with confidence. "

In team news for the visitors, boss Gus Poyet has mentioned that he is looking to rotate his squad a little with the Seagulls facing long trips to Carlisle this weekend, and then Plymouth in a rearranged game just three days later on Tuesday. Brighton tempering some of that travelling time by flying to Newcastle today ahead of their visit to Brunton Park.

As already mentioned, skipper Gordon Greer is once more available for selection, while Spanish striker Fran Sandaza returns after being "squad rotated" with fatigue against MK Dons last weekend. Two other players coming back into the Albion ranks being goalkeeper Peter Brezovan and centre-half Lewis Dunk who have recently been sidelined with a fractured wrist and stress fracture to the foot respectively.

That leaves just one Seagull definitely missing through injury, the player being former MK Dons midfielder Alan Navarro who won't return to action until at least after Christmas after he ruptured his cruciate ligament just two games into this season. Meanwhile, in other Albion team news, 19-year defender Steve Cook yesterday joined Blue Square Bet Premier side Eastbourne Borough on loan for a month.

The referee for tomorrow's match is Jock Waugh from Sheffield, and he will be assisted down the lines by Tony Harrington from Hartlepool and Paul Marsden from Leyland in Lancashire. Meanwhile the fourth official is another Lancastrian in Andy Newell from Cleveleys, near Blackpool.
