Simon Grayson Looks Ahead To Tomorrow

Simon GraysonHuddersfield boss Simon Grayson spoke to his club's official website ahead of his side's League One clash against Carlisle at Brunton Park tomorrow afternoon, Grayson first looking back on Town's 1-0 home win over Charlton last weekend :

"I think the Charlton result can only stand us in good stead, we've had the belief since we came here that we have a good squad - one capable of getting promotion - but I think getting the late goal at Colchester was a big boost for us, which has been followed by the win at Chesterfield and beating the league leaders. It can only help everybody's confidence. Now we have to try to maintain that and get a few more wins before the end of the season. That was how we want our team to play; we have to be hard-working, organised and show the ability in front of goal to score. We have to defend with our lives too.

"I'm sure Diego Arismendi is getting fitter all the time. We've integrated him slowly, giving him 15 minutes at Colchester and then at Chesterfield but we felt it was the right thing to start him last Saturday. He looks composed when he has the ball and he's a physical presence as well. He will get better with all the games that come along because he's not played a lot of football, but full credit to him as he's settled in really well and the group has taken to him. Hopefully he can produce a few more performances like he did last week.

"It's something we were looking to do to take it to another level. That's no disrespect to the other lads that have been playing in midfield, but Diego has come from a Premier League club and his main strength is his composure on the ball. The other midfield players we have at the club have different qualities - ones that we will need throughout the course of the season - but Diego offers us that. As I said, hopefully he will get better as he plays more games.

"Peter (Clarke) has come back in and shown his experience. He's probably guided Sean (Morrison) through certain periods of the game and that is why you need leaders on the pitch. It was a really tough decision in terms of who we were going to leave out when Peter came back, but we decided to go with Sean and together they have done really well.

"You also can't rule out what Tom Clarke has done since he's come into the team or what Jack Hunt does, as well as the team in front of them. The midfield four and front two are working extremely hard to protect that back four, but when they have to defend they are doing so with their lives. We've kept successive clean sheets which is delightful; it's a massive bonus for a defender to do that. We've worked hard on the training pitch and we seem to have stopped making silly little errors at this moment in time - long may that continue."

"We know we are in for a tough game at the weekend against Carlisle, who are in the play-off positions at this moment in time. They are a good team that has been there or there-abouts over the last few years. I watched them at MK Dons the other night and it was a great result for them; they have a hard-working team and Greg Abbott has done a good job up there. I watched Carlisle beat MK Dons on Tuesday and they are a good, well-organised team, but I know my players have the ability to win there.

"I've known Greg from his time in the Academy at Leeds before he went up there and he's done a good job. I've led many teams against him and for Carlisle to be up and around the play-offs is a great job. We will respect the opposition no matter who we play, whether it's home or away, but we can beat anybody on our day. I'm sure there will be a good Town following on Saturday and we'll go there in good spirits looking to win the match. If we show the same attitude, commitment and quality as last weekend we won't go far wrong.

“Everybody is fit from the weekend and Tommy Miller has trained all week, although he probably needs a development game before he can be considered for the first team. It's good to have him back on the training pitch though. Oscar (Gobern) will probably miss the game still as well as Gary Naysmith and Damien Johnson, but other than that I think we have everybody else available, which is good. You don't seem to pick up too many injuries when you're winning football matches, that's for sure! Obviously when the team wins, it doesn't tend to change too much but we might tweak it a bit and change one or two things as we pick a team to win the next particular game.

"It's down to the players more than me. I try to organise the players on the training pitch and pick the right players for the team we are playing against, but it's down to the players to show what they are capable of doing. They have shown through the course of the season that they are more than capable of beating anybody on their day and all we've done is tweak a few things. The players should have confidence because they have the ability to see a job through.

"At this stage of the season you're not doing too much training anyway - you're keeping the players ticking over. The games are coming thick and fast, so we're preparing properly. We're going down to Leyton Orient on Monday, staying over and coming back on Wednesday; we'll then prepare properly for the Sheffield Wednesday game before flying down to Bournemouth on the Sunday.

"We've been backed by the Chairman (Dean Hoyle) to do our preparation properly and that will give us the best opportunity. The players know what they need to do away from the ground too. We've got some big games coming up and I think after the Easter period you will not be too far away from finding out where we're going to be, because we'll be down to the last four games of the season - the business end of it all. We've said it all along, but we just have to concentrate on what we do. We can't affect the midweek results or what happens elsewhere on a weekend - we just have to make sure we win as many games as possible."
