Saints boss Nigel Adkins
Southampton manager Nigel Adkins spoke to his club's official website ahead of his side's League One match against Carlisle at Brunton Park tomorrow, Adkins hoping the weather isn't too bad during the match :

" It's going to be a tough, hard encounter for both sides. Hopefully the weather won't take too much of a part in it. It's affected everyone this week I would have thought. It's been cold, wet and miserable but saying that we had an excellent session on Wednesday when the sun came out, so I don't know if that was good planning or just a bit fortunate!

" Having said that we've been out today in the cold and wind, and rain and that has been a really good session as well, so we are quite pleased with the way that we have prepared through the week.

" It is a game that we are really looking forward to. Going up to Cumbria, it will be tough, and we want to be challenged. We know that we have to be at the top of our game to make sure that we get anything from it. We have been to Carlisle on many occasions. It is big and open, and we have had a lot of adverse weather this week, so hopefully it doesn't affect the pitch too much because it is a lovely playing surface up there.

" They are a good side and they are up at the top of the league on merit. Greg (Abbott) has been there a couple of years now and has tried to get his side playing football, they can be direct, but ultimately they try to play. They also have several loan players that they have brought into the building and they go about things in the right way, so we know it will be a tough test, but we will be looking to win. "

" I've said all the way through, let's get to January and make sure that we are in the race and then after January, can we go and win the race? That philosophy isn't going to change. I'm not really looking at the table at this moment in time.

" Let's just take it one game at a time, try and win that game of football, have a good week in preparation for the next one and build it from there. Come the end of the season that is where the league table will come alive and count, so we just have to make sure that we stay in the race.

" I think we have got some great characters here, some really good players who are honest and hardworking and they all want to be successful. First and foremost you have to make sure that you have got a team, together everyone achieves more, because we have to be able to deal with injuries, suspensions and lack of form.

" The players have been top drawer, and we all want to be successful at this football club. Yes we have managed to go on a run of winning games, ultimately that is what it is about, there is a certain style of football that I want to play and I will keep trying to instil that on the training ground every day. You have to find ways to win games of football and we are pleased that at this moment in time we are doing that."
