Greg Abbott On The Bradford Game

New Blues number two Greg Abbott made 219 appearances for the Bantams in his playing career, and before taking up the post of under-18 boss at Leeds United, he was a regular at Valley Parade as a local radio summariser. So it will be a chance to meet a lot of old friends tonight as Abbott himself mentioned when he spoke to the Telegraph and Argus :

"I must be getting tougher in my old age but I really haven't any sentiment there. It's just another game and I'm desperate for a result again to keep the ball rolling. We want to keep the momentum going and as it's Bradford that's in the way then I'll just have to upset a few of my pals.

"I've got a lot of friends there - I had near enough ten years at the club as a player and had some very good times. The highlight was obviously winning the Third Division. So it will be nice to see people I know and have worked with before but it's all about Carlisle United for me now.

"All I want is for Carlisle to win the game and progress to the next round. This is the new adventure for me. It's been a smashing decision to come to Carlisle. I'm enjoying what I'm doing here and I've got a smile on my face all the time."

Veteran Bradford City striker Dean Windass played with Abbott at Hull and said :

"He's a very enthusiastic and hard-working lad who has taken that attitude on into his coaching skills. Greg will tell you himself that he wasn't the most talented player in the world but knew what he was good at and took no prisoners.

"He wants to be a manager one day and I'm sure it will happen because he's got himself on the ladder. It's nice to see a local Bradford lad going on and doing well in the game and good luck to him."
