Gills goalkeeper Simon Royce spoke to his club's official website about the Carlisle game tomorrow, Royce talking about Gillingham's dire away form, as well as the mood of the players as the rumours continue to grow that ex-Stevenage boss Mark Stimson will take over the Priestfield Stadium hotseat in the next few days :

"Team spirit is pretty decent, to be honest. We are taking a lot of positives out of our home performances at the moment. Obviously we have not been that great away but that is something that we have to sort out ourselves, but we are unbeaten at home in six games and you have to take positives from that.

"Last weekend's game was always going to be a difficult one, with both teams having caretaker managers. Both are struggling at the bottom so I think a draw was a fair result. It was fairly positive but it is going to be tough one for us. Carlisle score a lot of goals at home and we leak goals away, so if we can put things right at the back and build from that to keep a clean sheet then perhaps we can nick a result from there.

"The lads talk about it in the dressing room, that it is going to be this person or that person coming in, but at the end of the day we have to focus on the football side and the rest of it takes care of itself. The Chairman is the man who is going to make an appointment whoever that may be, so we have to leave that down to him as we try to win football matches for whoever is in charge.

"
Iffy (Onuora) has been excellent. It must be difficult for him as well because he is up in the air and obviously he is in charge of the club and, dare I say it, he would probably like the job. At the end of the day we are getting on with what we have to do and Iffy has been getting on with what he has to do. We have been positive towards him and he has been positive. It is all good.

"I have no wish for whoever comes in, to be quite honest. We are trying to win football matches first and foremost. It has been well documented in the press about who it could be but until it happens it could be anybody, so we are trying to get on with our jobs and let the powers-that-be get on with sorting it out."

"It is not always ideal staying that long on a coach. We trained up here earlier today, which I think is better because if we trained before we went then we run the risk of getting caught in the rush hour. We try and do things the right way round.

"We will go for a walk on the morning of the game to stretch our legs and then put things right. Whether you are playing down the road in a local game, or going all the way up to Carlisle, you try to do things the same.

"
It is difficult when you are not winning away from home. The Swindon game was our worst performance since I have been at the club, but I know that if we can build from the back and keep a clean sheet but, without being too negative, sometimes you have to look at getting a point away from home. I don't know whether there are any other teams that have not won away from home yet, but a point up at Carlisle would be an excellent result.

"
The fans do have a big part, which is why I think that our home performances are much better although our away support is fantastic as well. For somebody to travel up to Carlisle to watch their team speaks volumes and they will have a big part to play. At Swindon they were excellent and even after a dreadful performance, they clapped us off the field and I am sure they will do the same at Carlisle.

"I jumped at the chance to come here after I played three games last season. I liked what I saw and the people I spoke to. I have been in the game a long time and have seen 12 to 13 managers in my time so I have seen it all before. I am happy with my performances so far and think they have been quite decent but obviously I am not happy with our results."

"Once things have settled down and an appointment has been made then hopefully we can get to grips with things and then look to get some new players in. I think we need a squad to push for the Play-Offs but whether that happens or not it is down to the Chairman and those in charge.

"I guess I am surprised at how long it is taking to get a new manager in but then, perhaps, the Chairman wants to make the right appointment, which is obvious. Maybe he doesn't want to jump in with both feet. The longer it goes on, the more difficult it is as players but we just get on with it and hopefully it will be resolved soon.

"His record speaks for itself at the level he has managed at. He has taken clubs to finals, promotions and obviously he is going to be linked with jobs. When a manager is successful and jobs become available then names are going to be linked. I think there are around 13 managers without jobs now already this season and there are some decent jobs going.

"I am sure that Mark Stimson's name has been linked with more jobs than here at Gillingham. It's been in the press that he has resigned his post at Stevenage, whether he is coming here I do not know; that is one for the Chairman and the board of directors.

"But Mark has an excellent record, and as you know I played alongside him as a player but not under him as a manager, but I am sure he would do a good job. If he doesn't come in then Iffy is doing a great job too. We will just get on with it, starting with the Carlisle game."
