Stevenage boss Gary Smith spoke to his club's official website and the Comet ahead of his side's League One match against Carlisle at Brunton Park on Saturday afternoon, Smith pleased to get a 2-0 win at the Lamex against Notts County on Tuesday night:

“It would be beneficial to turn the form at home around, especially with the way we have been playing away from home it could be a nice combination. The result gives us a nice boost now for going to Carlisle, the atmosphere in training is completely different to the last two or three weeks that we have had when results have not necessarily gone according to plan. A couple of defeats and suddenly the doubts start creeping in a little bit, they shouldn’t do because I think the group is slowly but surely moving forward.

“Results underline that and while this is only a small stepping stone towards a better run and a more confident run, it certainly gives us a better foundation to push on. When all is said and done everyone has been desperate to get a much better run going at home and to show a much better performance at home and it hasn’t quite come about. So, with a little bit of luck it will be something we can all draw on in weeks to come.

“I think Carlisle are three unbeaten, if I am not mistaken they got a good result against Coventry and a very good result away to Tranmere in there. They themselves have probably underachieved this season and will be feeling that way, but recent results have seen a turn of fortune for them and they will be feeling more confident.

“We’ve seen umpteen teams in this league turn things around. Walsall are the epitome, they started off brightly, then went 17 games without a win and then they go and win seven or eight out of nine and it catapults them back into contention. It’s possible in this league, there’s no doubt about it, yes you have got to perform well and you need some fortune, and players to stay fit are key ones, but they’ve proved you really can turn it around that quickly.

“Carlisle going back home as well, they will be I am sure looking forward to adding to that three game unbeaten run. No game in this league is easy, it has proved week in and week out, it has been stated before that probably for fourth position now to 18th or even 20th position, each team is capable of putting in a terrific performance and a good result on any weekend or any given game.

“So, no-one is taken lightly, we certainly have our away form to feel good about and on the back of a good home result the players will certainly be I think looking forward to the away game, and trying to add to that home result and adding points on the board. Because, at this point if we can just keep that little momentum going then I think we give ourselves a real good chance of starting to just keep a little bit more pressure on those teams above us.”
