Gary Johnson Looks Ahead To Tomorrow

Yeovil boss Gary Johnson spoke to his club's official website ahead of his side's League One clash against Carlisle at Huish Park on Saturday afternoon, Johnson pleased with the performance of the Glovers in their 1-0 win at Crawley on Tuesday evening:

“You have seen two sides of our squad recently, at Swindon where we didn’t play as well as we would have liked and then three days later we go and play like Trojans at Crawley. We did a lot of work and cajoling with them, a lot of whispering, pushing, shoving, shouting and screaming, we did everything to get the boys to pick up their performance. Now, because we have had these boys for a long time we know their personalities, most of them don’t go to Swindon to play badly, most of them are going there to try and it is just their inexperience that causes a problem to us.

“Once they have learnt a little bit they go and produce a performance away at Crawley like they did. So, we are in a healthy position, we are there or thereabouts, there are a lot of teams in not a very healthy position that are going to spend the rest of the season fighting relegation. But, every win we get now gives us that opportunity to push when we need to at the right times. But, with inexperienced lads they are very inconsistent as well, and as they grow into they get more and more consistent.

“We have got a group of lads that nearly all of them we have had to take a bit of a chance with, so some we are going to win and some we are going to lose as far as whether they make it or not. So, really when you look at it we have got to be pleased with where we are at the minute, and if we are that one step away from the play-off places then we are doing a fine job. Although we all get disappointed with defeats this team shows you there is a win just around the corner, so don’t get too low.

“Hopefully we can put a bit of a batch of wins together and we can get right in there. But, that is how I have been talking all season wherever we have been in the league. We have got to keep thinking like that because we don’t need to tell them that we want to survive, well done for staying in League One. We have got to compete at this level and we seem to be doing that, so we are in a position that says we are competing in this division.

“Paddy Madden will be a loss, he has done very well for us and he gives us that runner that stretches the game. He is forever running, he has got a great work-ethic and we like him a lot. It is good that we have got him, he is ours, it just means he has to miss a couple of games, Carlisle and the Wycombe game because he is cup-tied. But, him and us will cope with that and we are just pleased at this moment in time he is our player.

“If we get a good performance tomorrow then we have got every chance, if we don’t then Carlisle have got good enough players to get out of the trouble they are in. They will obviously feel that they under a little bit of pressure in the team because they have lost three on the trot and they have dropped down the league a little bit. So, I am sure they will be giving it everything to pick up those points quickly, and we see it as quite a big game for us as well to take another step towards those play-off positions.

“We have got a group of lads that I trust and I think they trust me however I am putting it across to them. If we can get a great atmosphere here on Saturday again it would be nice to get another result at home because we have had a couple of home games that have been difficult, but the two wins against Hartlepool and Bury were great wins. So, let’s make it a big event on Saturday and all deserve the three points.”
