Wycombe midfielder Gareth Ainsworth spoke to the Buckinghamshire Advertiser ahead of his side's League One game against Carlisle at Adams Park tomorrow. Ainsworth though is serving the last match of a three game ban he picked up after being sent off for elbowing Millwall's Tony Craig two weeks ago.

So with Ainsworth unable to play tomorrow he will be joining the Wycombe fans in the crowd, his different day being covered by both SKY Sports News and the BBC regional show Late Kick-Off, Ainsworth himself commenting on the situation :

" If I can't be on the pitch then I want to be able to do whatever I can to help the team. I don't want to just sit in the stand but want to get in with the fans and do my bit for the cause. It has been a difficult time for the Wycombe fans but I have never heard anything negative from them. They are nervous because of the position we are in but we want them to keep believing that we can achieve something special this season.

" It is really turning back the clock for me back to my days following Blackburn which is where my love affair with football started. I was a season ticket holder at Rovers for 10 years and used to go all the time with my dad until my professional career took off. I am a true football fan and the game is in me and I think the fans know how to take me because there are no airs and graces with me.

"I just want to do all I can for the club in the same way I have done at all my clubs. I am 100 per cent behind behind the Wycombe cause and behind the players and staff because they are a talented bunch and good group.

" After a defeat players always want the next game to come quickly. But we need to look past the Stockport game because we had some good performances leading up to it. We need to make sure that the players and the fans understand that every single game we play now is massive. It makes no difference if it is Carlisle at home or Oldham away next weekend or whether we would have to play Leeds at Elland Road.

" We have a massive challenge in front of us and the fans can really help make each one at home like a cup final and get behind the team. If we stay in this division it will be better than any promotion and the players, staff and fans are all pushing in the same direction. I will be jumping around with the fans and singing along and hopefully we will all have lots to celebrate on Saturday. "
