Danny Wilson Looks Ahead To Tomorrow

Sheffield United boss Danny Wilson spoke to his club's official website ahead of his side's League One game against Carlisle at Bramall Lane on Easter Monday afternoon, Wilson first talking about Blues boss Greg Abbott:

“I don’t really know what has been said up in Carlisle from whatever area, but what I do know is that Greg has done a brilliant job up there over the four or five years he has been there. But, he has done a remarkable job, it is a very, very tough place to get players to go and play. A little bit like Plymouth if you like, you seem to be on the edge of things and to get players of quality to come to you, you find it virtually impossible at times.

“So, to get a team together like he has done over the last few years and have the success he has had over the last few years, for me I take my hat off to him, I think he has done absolutely brilliantly. Criticism comes with our job at the moment in time, it seems to be coming thick and faster as well at the moment. I think somebody said there are 103 managers and coaches that have gone this season, which is an incredible amount.

“So, it just suggests that patience is not there anymore, but I think when somebody is doing a job as well as he is doing you would be very foolish to think of anything different. When you look at it from the outside and think what a good job people have done you sometimes take away what their own fans are thinking and they think that should be competing with Manchester United and Liverpool.

“But, realistically you know that is not going to be the thing that enables a club to be successful, they have to be in and around the play-offs or mid-table or challenging for one or two cups again and get to the third round or something. That is success in some clubs and you have to be realistic in that. I go back again, I don’t know what the ambition is at Carlisle, but what I would say is that they have done a great job to be doing what they have been doing all over this last four or five years, particularly when Greg has been in charge.

“I don’t know any team that has had an easy game at Carlisle, any team or any manager over a period of time will tell you that is a very, very tough place to try to get a result. I think is down to what the organisation and management have done up there. But, it is very tough and people will look at it thinking you should beat them and you should beat the others, but it is not always as easy as that.

“Three points are massive now and obviously every home win would be massive for us between now and the end of April of course. The three games we have got on the spin at home in a week or so I think will be very, very telling. So, we have got everything to play for, it is definitely in our hands and definitely with the support we know we can generate within Brammall Lane it promises to be a great run-in for us.”
