Albion's on-loan loan left-back Matt Richards spoke to the Brighton Argus about the match against the Cumbrians at the Withdean Stadium tomorrow, Richards talking up the need for their defence to keep a clean sheet :

"They are going to cause us a lot of problems but I think we are capable of dealing with that. I don't see why we can't win the game comfortably and keep a clean sheet. That is what we are aiming for. We are at home, which is to our advantage. Everyone is positive we can get a result and continue this good run we are on.

"The most important thing is that we win. This business is all about winning games, regardless of the performance. Obviously we would like to play good football but as long as we win that is the most important thing.

"We are looking to keep a clean sheet. That is important for us. The more clean sheets we keep the more confident we will become as a defensive unit. The run we went on before of four or five games was really good. We need to start that again."

Meanwhile skipper Dean Hammond commented to the Argus :

"It's another big game like Orient last Saturday. It's a top-of-the-table clash. It's where we want to be, challenging, and we want to play the bigger teams in the league. We look forward to it with a lot of confidence. I don't think we fear anyone at the moment.

"We've progressed massively. The boys have experienced a whole season and they have now come through this year. We've added experience in Fozzy (Nicky Forster), who is looking really sharp now and has obviously adapted to the way we play. We're looking really good. We look solid as a team, we're playing some good stuff and we're creating some good chances so we look strong.

"The character within the squad is fantastic. As a group the boys get on fantastically well and I think that helps on the football pitch. If you have conceded a goal and maybe need to regroup for five minutes, we can do that, and that's maybe why we're scoring straight away. You can't get on each other's backs. That would be a negative and you may end up conceding another."

While Seagulls boss Dean Wilkins told the Argus :

"As well as we are doing, I would like us to get back on the clean sheet trail and have a nice, comfortable win, but it will be very tough. We are on the right road. I just want to make sure we don't end up slipping back by losing a game. We have to guard against that and if you keep a clean sheet that means straight away you don't lose.

"If we can achieve that I'll be very pleased. I am not necessarily talking about defenders and the goalkeeper, but as a team, because everyone has a duty when we haven't got the ball to get into the right areas and defend as stoutly as they can.

"We need to make sure the organisation is as rigid as it was when we were keeping clean sheets, because we are looking very confident when we have got the ball now. If we can get back on that clean sheet trail I have every confidence that we'll create enough opportunities to score."

The last man to chip in was right-back Andrew Whing who commented to the Argus :

"It's a big incentive for us to show everyone in the league we are serious about going up. We have got a lot of belief and confidence in the team and we are not scared of anyone as yet. In a couple of weeks we can overtake Carlisle and maybe we will be the league leaders."

Unlike United's opponents in recent weeks Brighton have few injury problems ahead of the game tomorrow. Centre-half Tommy Elphick is out after undergoing a recent double hernia operation while 20-year old midfielder Doug Loft is sidelined with an ankle problem.

In better news for the Seagulls striker Alex Revell is back in training after his own hernia operation, and Ipswich-loanee Matt Richards extended his temporary spell at the Withdean Stadium into a third and final month earlier this week.

The referee for tomorrow's match is Stuart Attwell from Nuneaton in Warwickshire, and he will be assisted down the lines by Harry Lennard from Eastbourne in East Sussex and Tony Mason from Sidcup in Kent. Meanwhile the fourth official will be Eric Mackrell from Petersfield in Hampshire.
