Bradford City boss Colin Todd has snapped up the out-of-contract central defender Matt Clarke from League Two side Darlington on a two-year deal, the Leeds-born defender making his way back to West Yorkshire from the North-East. The 25-year old ex-Halifax and Wolves man is seen as a straight replacement at the Bradford and Bingley Stadium for Jamaican defender Damion Stewart who left the club to join QPR in May, after spending last season on loan at Bradford City from Caribbean Club champions Harbour View.

Out-of-contract Wrexham duo Lee McEvilly and Andy Holt could both be set to move up a division and ply their trade in League One. 24-year old Northern Irish international striker McEvilly is tipped for a move to Bradford while the 28-year old Holt is wanted by a number of clubs, although Northampton are apparently leading the race for his signature. At Sixfields new boss John Gorman is hoping that he can persuade 31-year old frontman Martin Smith to stay with the Cobblers, Smith is currently out-of-contract and has been involved in talks with League Two side Darlington.

Gillingham manager Ronnie Jepson has resigned himself to losing goalkeeper Jason Brown to either Swansea or Blackburn. 24-year old Welsh international Brown is currently a free agent at the Kent outfit and Jepson is actively looking for a replacement should Brown, as expected, leave the club. New Yeovil boss Russell Slade is facing competition from Notts County as he looks to snap up Junior Mendes, who has been released by Huddersfield. The 29-year old forward played a big part in taking Grimsby to the play-off final last season and Slade is hoping Mendes follows him from Blundell Park to Huish Park.

Crewe boss Dario Gradi isn't too perturbed by missing out on the signatures of strikers Eddie Johnson and Gareth Taylor. Johnson has joined Bradford City from Manchester United while Taylor, who had a spell on loan with the Alex' last season looks unlikely to join the Railwaymen on a permanent basis. Gradi commenting on his options upfront : "If they don't want to come here, there is nothing I can do to change their minds. I made the mistake last season of having too many strikers, and then I couldn't give some of them a chance."

Chairman of newly-promoted Cheltenham Town, John Baker, has said that manager John Ward will have some money to spend this summer but not a huge amount. Baker saying : " There is an probably an expectation amongst the fans that we have loads of money and we should be bringing new players in. We haven't got loads of money but we are in a good financial position. If the manager wants to bring in one or two new faces we'll be doing our very best and making money available." Huddersfield striker Andy Booth has commented on his testimonial late next month against Spanish Primera Liga side Real Sociedad, the veteran striker telling the club website : " I hope it's going to be a really good night for Town, Real and the fans."
