Northampton boss Colin Calderwood has signed out-of-contract Wycombe midfielder Joe Burnell. The 25-year-old ex-Bristol City man, who played under Cobblers boss John Gorman at Wycombe, agreeing on a two-year contract at Sixfields after leaving the Chairboys. Tranmere have snapped up ex-Barnsley winger Chris Shuker on a free transfer, Shuker leaving Oakwell after contractual problems with the Championship club, the 24-year old now moving to Prenton Park on a two-year deal.

Shropshire-born striker Andy Cooke is currently on trial with Shrewsbury Town, the 32-year-old on the lookout for a new club after being released by Bradford City at the end of last season. Ex-Blackpool centre-half Tony Butler has moved down to the South-West to link up with Nationwide Conference side Forest Green Rovers, the 33-year old joining fellow defenders Chris Giles from Crawley and Matthew McEntegart from Chippenham Town in joining the Nailsworth-based team.

Oldham's 31-year old Australian keeper Les Pogliacomi has undergone minor surgery on his damaged knee after picking the injury up in pre-season training. Stuart Tomlinson's proposed season-long loan move to Conference club Burton Albion has been delayed, the deal going on hold until the 21-year old glovesman recovers from a recently gained calf injury. Millwall striker Ben May is also on the treatment table, the 22-year-old sustaining a shoulder injury in pre-season which may require surgery.

Three transfer-listed players in David Partridge, Grant Smith and Steve Phillips, and one on an unofficial list in Marcus Stewart, have been left behind from Bristol City's pre-season tour of Latvia by boss Gary Johnson, the quartet being close to joining other clubs according to Johnson. Fulham expect to finally complete a deal on Monday for Leyton Orient's highly-rated 20-year old centre-half Gaby Zakuani, the DR Congo international having scored three goals in close to 100 appearances for the Brisbane Road outfit.

Ex-Crewe defender Adie Moses, 31, will undergo a medical at Sincil Bank today before putting pen to paper on a two-year deal with Lincoln City, meanwhile 28-year old midfielder Lee Crooks, released by Bradford in the summer, is also training with the Red Imps in a bid to a earn a contract from new boss John Schofield. Central defender Chris Hope, 33, let go by Gillingham at the end of last season, has signed for Conference side Rushden and Diamonds on a two-year deal. Also in League Two, Chester have reportedly finally completed the protracted signing of Ricky Ravenhill from Doncaster, the 25-year old midfielder being understood to have joined City for a five-figure transfer fee.
