United Surrender Two Goal Advantage

After seeing a two goal lead slide away at Exeter on Tuesday night, only for Richard Offiong to save Blue blushes in injury time, Carlisle did the same thing this afternoon after being 2-0 up at half-time thanks to club top scorers Joe Anyinsah and Ian Harte. Orient won the second-half at a canter though and goals from Ryan Jarvis and Danny Livesey into his own net, plus a few other good chances they missed, saw honours just finish even.

Following a quiet opening to the game with neither side creating much at all in the middle of the park the first real chance on goal brought a goal for United after 14 minutes. Anyinsah making it four goals in four games with a neat touch and turn on the edge of the box before he went on to sidefoot a crisp finish across the dive of Jamie Jones from 15 yards out.

Eight minutes later and the O's missed a good opportunity to equalise when Stephen Purches whipped in an excellent ball from the right, but veteran striker Jame Scowcroft could only glance his near-post header across goal and wide of the far-post. Harte then forced to block a Jason Demetriou shot from the edge of the box just after the half-hour mark as the visitors had a rare spell of pressure.

With 39 minutes on the clock Evan Horwood knocked in a good cross for Carlisle from the left and a touch on from Gary Madine saw Jones having to make an agile tip over his own crossbar. Madine's strike partner Anyinsah, who had been causing the O's problems early on, having to go off with a hip injury and be replaced by Offiong during the break in play.

The home side kept up their good first-half showing and deservedly made it 2-0 on 42 minutes when a Harte header from a Matty Robson corner crept into the net past an unguarded Orient near-post. Offiong then having the chance to make it 3-0 before the break only to shoot very weakly straight into the arms of the Jones when one-on-one with the visitors goalkeeper 18 yards out.

After an obvious half-time kick up the backside from manager Geraint Williams the O's were a different proposition after the break and Sean Thornton, from a Jarvis lay-off, smacked a drive over the top just 60 seconds in. But once more the game got bitty as neither side could produce anything of quality as possession was conceded far too easily in either half.

Things came to life moments before the hour mark though when a Scowcroft shot on goal, from a Nicky Adams pass, was deflected into the path of Jarvis, the O's striker then able to lash the ball into the roof of the Carlisle net from close range. United however almost regaining their two goal lead shortly afterwards when Jones was forced to make a good diving stop at his right-hand post from a low and pacey Harte free-kick.

Just before the midway point in the half and Orient seemed to be denied what looked like a blatant penalty when Adam Collin spilled a shot from Adams out in front of him, Demetriou then going to the floor under a challenge from the Carlisle stopper as both players went for the loose ball. The visitors did find an equaliser on 77 minutes though when a cross in from the right by Chambers saw Jarvis nod goalwards, the ball first though taking a hearty nick off the head of Livesey on its way into the top corner of the United net.

Impressive Orient substitute Jonathan Tehoue then almost grabbed a winner but his close range downward header, from a whipped in Adams cross, was brilliantly clawed away by Collin. In a rare attacking moment in the second-half Carlisle then broke forward and the hardworking Richard Keogh smacked a ball in across goal only for it to be palmed out of the path of Madine by Jones at full stretch.

It was only really the O's who were looking like scoring late on though and Tehoue, from a Tamika Mkandawire flick on, fairly smashed an edge of the box volley straight at Collin when anywhere else would surely have brought a goal. The last chance of the game again coming Orient's way just before injury time when Adams, after a weak Collin punch out on a Thornton cross, saw his goalbound shot cleared off the line by a relieved Livesey.
