With Preston going down 3-2 away to fourth placed Burnley a seemingly unstoppable Walsall side has now moved into top spot in the top table after hammering Tranmere 6-1 on the road, the young Saddlers having now won all of their opening seven games, while conceding just four goals in the process. The top five in the division, with Carlisle in there, now being completed by a Bury side who were victorious 2-0 away to Oldham.

Further down the table meanwhile Rochdale beat Morecambe 4-2 at home, while Stockport also won on their own soil, 2-1 against Shrewsbury, and another home victory came in North Wales where Wrexham defeated Port Vale 4-1. Finally after not winning all season Accrington have now won two games in a row after taking all three points at Blackpool courtesy of a 3-1 success.
