Accrington Reserves 3-2 United Reserves

Gary Madine
Another defeat for the Cumbrians sees them now having lost eight of their fourteen games played after winning the division last season. The match started well for United though as they took the lead when Gary Madine scored a cracker of a goal just two minutes in, Madine taking a quick touch of the ball before blasting it home into the top corner.

Accrington were soon in the lead though when they equalised through an expertly hit free-kick from fully 25 yards out, and then scored again with a weakly-given penalty following an alleged shirt-tug in the United box by James Krause. Things soon got worse for the Cumbrians as well when they found themselves 3-1 down going into the break when Stanley scored from a rebound after Adam Bradley had made a great save in the Carlisle nets.

Chris Lumsdon and Derek Holmes were replaced at the break with Saturday's first team home game against Gillingham in mind but the Blues kept going and pulled the score back to 3-2 on 75 minutes. Stephen Hindmarch being brought down in the Reds box, with Neale McDermott slamming home the resultant penalty. Despite some late pressure though, including a good chance missed by Paul Arnison, United were unable to find a late equaliser.

United line-up :

Adam Bradley, Paul Arnison, James Krause, Kevin Gray, Dan Kirkup, Chris Lumsdon (Matthew Brown 46), Neale McDermott, Shaun Vipond, Gary Madine, Stephen Hindmarch, Derek Holmes (Matthew Wood 46).

Footnote - the Accrington goals were scored by Michael Welch, Danny Ventre and Andrew Smith but no website records if that was the actual order the goals were scored in.
