Shanks Is Now A Spartan

20-year old former Newcastle United player Shanks only featured once in a Blue shirt as he played out the full 90 minutes as a trialist in the second-string defeat at home to Morecambe back in August. The Ashington-born right-back actually starting at centre-half that night due to a shortage of available players in the United back-line, he didn't impress in the game though and that was quickly the end of his trial spell.
Blyth manager Harry Dunn has snapped up Chris though as he looks to strengthen a Spartans outfit that is hovering around the Conference North relegation zone this season. Shanks will go straight into the squad for Blyth's league fixture tomorrow away to Solihull Moors, a club formed in the summer by the merger of Solihull Borough and Moor Green.
