Carlisle Face Long Second Round Trip
Updated Thursday, 11th August 2011
United to take on West Ham United or Aldershot Town on the road in the second round of the Carling Cup
After defeating Oldham 4-2 in a penalty shootout in the first round on Tuesday night, following a 1-1 draw over 90 minutes and then extra-time, Carlisle's 'reward' for that in round two is a long trip down south to take on West Ham United or Aldershot Town. Those two clubs having had their first round tie delayed due to the riots in London, with the game now being played on the second round date of Wednesday August 24th and ticket prices for potential reference for Blues fans for that match being £10 for adults and £5 for kids.
So, with that second round date out of the window for Carlisle, and then the Blues being in JPT action the following Tuesday night, the 6th or 7th of October look the most likely dates now for the Blues to be taking on the Hammers or the Shots on the road. As for previous Cumbrian League Cup action against either club, United haven't played West Ham or Aldershot Town, or even the long since defunct Aldershot in the competition before. Carlisle having not actually played West Ham away at any level since the Division One days of 1974-75.
