United midfielder Simon Hackney spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Thursday morning as he talked about signing an extended contract at Brunton Park earlier in the week :

" It's fantastic, I'm overwhelmed more than anything, to play football for most of my career is brilliant and I just hope I can improve and do better in these years that are coming on as well. It's a blessing definitely, I've always been happy to be here, I've been well looked after, the players are great, the environment that I am in is brilliant. I couldn't ask for anything else other than playing at the club and being really happy.

" The fans are brilliant, I always say this in every interview, they play a massive part in my career and on the pitch as well. Without them and the support that they give us it wouldn't be the same. The lads have still got it in their minds that they are still going to do well, the team, everything behind the scenes is very positive and I still think that we have got a really good chance this season.

" I intend to make it quite difficult for the manager to leave me out all the time to be quite honest. I've just got to give 100% and keep working hard and keep improving, learn from the coaches and just go on and do what I can do. Everyone wants to play and it is a squad at the end of the day, it is a team game, but if I can do anything to make myself one of those starting eleven then I want to be in there definitely. Because being out on the stage is the best thing, it really is.

" The pros that came in the reserves yesterday, and even the young lads, did really, really well, it was a very professional game yesterday I reckon in the reserves definitely. He (Jamie Mullan) reminds me of Carlos Roca, he reminds me a bit of him, he's got great feet, his delivery was very good when he got past the players. He is a really nice lad to get on with as well and he's settled in really well. "
