Carlisle skipper Paul Thirlwell spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Saturday evening as he gave his opinion on United's disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Tranmere :

" The game has just finished and it's hard to reflect on it at the minute but it was disappointing. I don't think that there was anything in the game but with us being at home it's up to us to put them on the back-foot, put them under pressure and create chances. To be fair whilst I don't think that we deserved to lose the game I don't think that we deserved to win it either.

" They were probably comfortable in defence, I think they mopped up well. It was one of those days, in the second-half I think we had plenty of balls coming in the box, whether it be from throw-ins or crosses coming in from deep. It was partly us not getting on the end of it and then it was just one of those days where nothing seemed to drop. To be honest I think that we probably played worse last week and won.

" I think that the first-half was more of an open game, they had a little bit of a go but then the disappointing thing is the goal that we conceded. Then, like any team you play for, once you go a goal up it's something to hold onto. They didn't have to come out and do anything in the second-half, they were quite happy to sit back and soak up what we threw at them, so from their point of view that went well.

" It's disappointing because I think that the minimum we would have got is a draw but for a minute of sloppiness on our behalf really. The goal was disappointing from our point of view, every goal you concede, bar a 30-yard strike, you can pick the bones out of it and look to see why you are disappointed from your point of view. It wasn't good, we went in at half-time a bit down when we should have been 0-0.

" In the second-half you can't fault the lads for effort, we came out and had a right go, it just wasn't to be our day. Sometimes the game can just run smoothly and everything you touch seems to turn to gold, which is a bit of a cliché. Then some days you can try too hard and nothing seems to happen, that's football, no-one is going to through the season and win every game. It's just disappointing when you get the lows but it's how you come back from it.

" I think it was a penalty, I looked at the referee straight away, I think it's one of those, that's the decision he's got to make and he didn't give it. I think in hindsight he is maybe thinking that he might have made an error there. That happens though, we just have to go on and concentrate on next week now. At the end of the day you've got to look at the overall picture, we're five games in and we've taken ten points.

" If we can keep taking two points from each game then we'll be right up there come the end of the season. That's the way we have to look at it, remain positive, it's a testimony to the start that we have had that when you do get defeats you should be massively disappointed, because we are hoping not to have too many of them. "
