Greg Abbott
United caretaker manager Greg Abbott spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Saturday evening as he talked about the 3-1 victory at the Fitness First Stadium today, Abbott talking about his own position later in the interview :

" What a game. You are in a difficult position aren't you at 2-0 and playing so well, I don't think Bournemouth will have had any qualms about us going in 4-0 or 5-0 up at half-time. That's the way I've seen it anyway, trying not to be too biased again or me and you will be falling out every week, it's going to be a bit of fun this season isn't it. We came in at 2-0 and it's a scoreline where you think - do we really go for the next one and go for broke, leave a few holes and let them have a go?

" We never properly started in the second-half, we let them back into the game and the period then leading up to Joe (Anyinsah's) goal was a really important period because they had a genuine good period in the game for them. We bolted down though, the work ethic of the players is magnificent. Joe Anynisah I think has been absolutely outstanding in the game today for his first game for such a long time, swivels on one and bangs into the back of the net.

" Then we had a few scares but we opened them up again at the back but they threw caution to the wind and that is what you get in games like this isn't it. It's one of those where it was open football, it was both teams trying to play the game the right way. Attack was in everybody's thoughts all the way through the match and I just thought that it was a magnificent spectacle. I'm lucky enough to be the winning manager.

" I've said all along that we know where we can go and be hopeful of getting something, and this was one of the places. We know where we can go and we've got to be a little bit more cautious and that's the Swansea's and Leeds United's and Nottingham Forest's of this world. We're not giving too much away though, we want to play as much attacking football as we can this season. We had to take advantage of the fact that Bournemouth hadn't won at home, obviously they are up against it a little bit. "

" I thought that we did that today and it made for a fantastic open game. To be fair to Bournemouth they had a right go in the second-half and were unlucky on occasions but that's what happens when you are down where they are in the table.

" We were talking about Joe Garner last week, we said that we are not going to heap pressure on an 18-year old. We've cajoled him through, we keep encouraging him, we keep trying to say the right things. I think that Joe will say that the training that he has had this week has been terrific for him because we have worked all week on him getting into the forward line and not hanging back or coming too deep.

" Today has paid dividends for him, for an 18-year old to see the freshness and enjoyment on his face of playing football and scoring goals was fantastic. That means as much to us all, it's a results industry but it's nice to see players enjoying themselves.

" That's what Keiren (Westwood) gets paid for, that's why he has got gloves on, he didn't half make his saves look good though didn't he. I think he was playing to the camera a bit but let's not take anything away from him. He kept his goal intact for the majority of the game with a couple of brilliant saves. He's had a big hug from all the rest of the players but we're together, we're united and we're going to kick on.

" The victory was more important for Carlisle United than it was for me, a mini-crisis? - well I laughed at that. That was my team-talk before the game, mini-crisis? - I can't believe what I hear at times. We've won one game in the last five but we've lost two in the last nine or something like that, whichever way you want to spin it round. Mini-crisis? - far from it, a mini-crisis is Kevin Bond, he's got problems not me. "

" We're just going to kick on, we're going to play the best football we can possibly play, we're going to work hard week in and week out and hopefully just keep the team right at the top end of the table. I'm laughing at mini-crisis.

" The fans are fantastic aren't they away from home. What can I say about the way they travel and the way they come and support us in numbers? We take great encouragement from that and it's nice to be able to walk across there having performed well and having given something for them to be enjoyed about. Not just the result but the performance as well, we thank them and we can't say much more about them but they are brilliant on their travels.

" We want the same at home, we want the same numbers in the equation to support us at home and just make Brunton Park into fortress-Brunton Park. Let's get behind everybody, the players need help, we all need help and we are pleading for the fans to give us that.

" Without being too selfish, and ultimately you have got to look after yourself in this game, but I like those players and I like working with those players. I've got a real affection for them, I think they are responding for me, if you can see anybody in there that is not trying for the manager then you are seeing something different to me. Genuinely and honestly I think that they have given everything they have got so that's all that I can ask as a manager.

" I hope the people that need to make decisions have seen that and all I can do is keep preparing the right way, the only way I know. If they can perform like that for me then the decision is going to be hard for them to look elsewhere in my opinion. We haven't got any break now, I'll be working at the airport now thinking on how we are going to break Hartlepool down while you are having a couple of pints and a nice steady weekend. "
