United caretaker manager Greg Abbott spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Friday morning as he talked about the arrival of a new player at Brunton Park this week as well as the match at home to Bristol Rovers tomorrow :

" Joe (Anyinsah) has joined us from Preston for an initial month to see how he does, see if he likes us and see if we like him which is important, we'll see how he gets on. He's a wide right player, he's a natural genuine right-sided player so he'll give us natural genuine width. He's a good crosser of the ball and he's got a yard of pace so hopefully he'll give us that attacking option as and when required down the right-hand side to cause defenders problems. Then once he gets in behind - putting the sort of balls in that our strikers need to get on the end of.

" He's been playing for the reserves, we've watched his last three performances and Dennis (Booth) knows him. He had a niggly injury right at the start of the season and he missed two or three games. He's had an issue with injuries previously but this season he has been doing really well, we've watched him three times and he's not somebody that we've gone in blind on. Obviously Dennis knows him so we're hoping that he comes in and adds some attacking dimension to us.

" He'll be in the squad, he's going to train with us today which will be the first day that he has trained with us. So we'll see how it all fares up but I would imagine that he will take his place in the squad this weekend. I'm not sure that coming from Preston the weather is going to be that much different, an hour down the road they still get rain in Manchester and Preston so I don't think it will be that uncommon to him.

" As per usual there are plenty of other irons in the fire, patience is the key. Certainly I'm working towards doing something in the window when the transfer window opens. Again though it has got to be the right deal for everybody, the right deal for the player and the club and we'll see how that progresses. We are certainly looking all the time though and keeping our options open all the time, and viewing different players all the time. "

" There were no late injury scares yesterday, they looked very sharp yesterday, they looked very bright in the training session yesterday. I hope for more of the same touch wood, we get no problems, so near enough a clean bill of health bar Paul Thirlwell. No decision has been made on Jamie Mullan yet, he's only had one game. So what we'll probably say to Jamie is to play in the reserve game next week and we'll delay that decision for a week to give him time to prove what he can do, and it gives us time to make sure that we make the right decision.

" Everybody is looking to see how we are going to do things, there is not a great deal wrong with what we are doing at the moment. We're close to getting where we want to be, again slightly different performances away from home as you get at home. We're going to pick a side that is going to go out there and attack Bristol Rovers and get right after them. Obviously they will be coming to get something out of the game and it will be an interesting game.

" We'd like to get back on winning form, we're still up there in a nice healthy position but we want to make sure that our home games for certain give us points to give us that confidence and keep us where we are in the table. Saturday is no exception, every game is an important one as we'll be saying throughout the season but obviously the next one is the most important one. Let's hope that we can get that result on Saturday.

" I've no idea why the crowd is down a little, we're still in the best position we've been in for a long, long time. We're still joint third or fourth or whatever it is, obviously it's expensive to watch football now-a-days and people are making a choice. It's up to us to make sure that we do enough at the football club, not just on the pitch but everything surrounding the club to make sure that people do come through the gates and watch us perform.

" You can't twist anybody's arm, you've just got to try to do your best, results play an important part and performances play an important part. I think the whole thing connected with the day out has got to be right, and only the fans will know the reasons why the gates are slightly lower than they have been. "
