United reserve team boss Eric Kinder spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Tuesday afternoon as he talked about the 3-0 win for the Blues second-string at home to Tranmere today :

" We didn't play very well against Morecambe, we let ourselves down and we had a few senior players in the side. Last week at Wrexham and today we've been good, we've moved the ball around at a good tempo, we've played one and two-touch football and we've made numerous chances in both games. We deserved to win easily today which they did.

" Whatever level of football you play at, it doesn't matter to me, football matches are to be won, it just breeds confidence. Danny (Carlton) is scoring goals at this level so you hope that when he gets his chance in the first-team, or when his chance comes along, that he'll take it.You've got to play reserve team football properly though, you've got to play youth team games properly. Any game of football you've got to play it to the right tempo and do things right.

" Neale (McDermott) loves playing football, he does his best to get out of every reserve game going but once you get him over the white line he just loves playing football. His first goal was a class finish, if it had been scored by (Andriy) Shevchenko it would have been shown on the television time and time again. He's got a good appetite for the game has Neale, he does enjoy it and he deserved his goals today.

" Peter (Murphy) is fine, nothing wrong with him, he played just under an hour and that was always the idea, it was a great game for him to come back into. Peter is an experienced lad and he gauged the tempo he needed to play the game at to make sure that he came off with no worries, and that has happened.

" He (Jamie Mullan) is another one, and every time we have trialists in we have to sit down and talk about them. Again there are trialists that have come and played and we've not even bothered having a meeting, the one thing that Jamie has done is that Greg (Abbott) will have to sit down with us and decide which way that one is going to go.

" The trialists really, I think that you tend to go off your first impression. Your first impression is usually right, we've had trialists who have come in and we haven't really sat down and talked about them. We've just said : "thanks for coming and we hope that everything goes well for you." In the case of Darren Campion he had us talking about him for two days so we had to bring him back. "

" I think that Jamie has done the same, he has done himself no harm, you can see that the lad can play football and some of the crosses that he put in were quality. What you find is that when they come the first time, even though they are professionals and even though they have come from a massive club like Manchester United, they are nervous. So if they do enough in their first game it is worth bringing them back for second when they have settled down a bit.

" It has shown with Darren, Darren fully deserves his contract. Today he was a bit disappointed with his performance but I thought he was terrific today. That's good though, you want them to be disappointed but I think that he is beating himself up over nothing. If his standards are higher than that then I am looking forward to working with him.

" I said to him that we have got members of staff saying that we have made the right decision in giving him a contract and then he's turning around and saying that he wasn't very good in the first-half but OK he was better in the second. You're thinking that, well if that's true then we have made a good decision, I thought that Darren impressed from day one which allowed him to come back, settle down and show us what he could do. He's been rewarded with, OK yes, it's a short-term contract but it's a contract and he can settle down and see what more there is in him.

" I am his (Dan Wordsworth's) biggest critic, he drives me mad, he always says to me that I pick on him a lot. I always say to him that while I am picking on him and shouting at him and going at him it means that I care about him, and that when I stop talking to him it means that he has got a problem. I have to admit that I thought he was fantastic today, that's the best that I have seen him play. I wasn't with the youth team on Saturday due to my first team commitment but I got a great report back from David (Wilkes) saying how well he has played.

" Dan can go on, I just worry sometimes that, I hope he takes this the right way if he listens to this, he is a little bit immature at times. He always says to me that he never lets me down on the pitch, he says that he might let me down slightly off it but it goes hand-in-hand. He does drives me mad, he can be a bit lazy at times with his jobs but that is what I want to see from him today, I thought that he was outstanding today.

" There are times when you watch the reserves and you come off and you wish that you didn't do it because they don't give it to you. I thought that the professionals who came in today, as they did against Wrexham, I thought that they were outstanding, and the lads, the young boys, who have come in have been very good.

" I thought that Tom Aldred looked comfortable when he came on for his 15 minutes and I thought that Dan was outstanding. Stephen (Hindmarch) shows that he can be a handful and I'm pleased with Shaun Vipond, he was my captain last season and he is making great strides. We'll win more than we lose this season no problem. "
