Richie-Barker-Bury_2585077Bury manager Richie Barker spoke to his club's official website and BBC Radio Manchester ahead of his side's League One clash at home to Carlisle tomorrow, Barker happy with a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield and 3-1 Gigg Lane victory over Coventry in the League Cup so far this season :

'It's been a good week, I don't think that we can say that we haven't been pleased with what we've done, but we also just need to be careful that we don't get carried away. At the end of the day, we've got one point, but obviously it was a well earnt point and obviously we are through to the next round of the Carling Cup, so it's been a decent week.

"The week has been soured by the injury to Steven Schumacher. We don't know the full extent yet, he had the scan yesterday and the doctors will tell us today, but I am certainly preparing to not have him for the foreseeable future. It's weeks as opposed to days, whether it will go into months or not we don't know yet, but anybody that is still on crutches three days after the injury means that its a fairly serious injury.

"Schuey is gutted, and to be fair to him, he was doing really well. He played really well on Saturday and was doing really well in the 20 minutes that he played on Tuesday. It's important from my point of view that we keep him involved, he is the captain of the team and people like that do good service to the football club, should be kept involved. He will get some time off, and it won't hurt him to have some time with his family, but it will be good to have him around the place as well.

"Patrick Cregg is not a ready made replacement He is obviously somebody that we have looked at pre-season. He played a part in the Prestatyn game and he is someone that we had our eye on anyway. We had spoken to him before Steven's injury, but obviously once the injury came it was important that we tried to get him in as soon as we could as we are down to the bare bones and we obviously want to keep doing what we’re doing."

"The performance and confidence from the Huddersfield game stood us in good stead for Tuesday night, and again, we grew in confidence as the game progressed on Tuesday. When you play Saturday - Tuesday like that, it can be difficult to get going, but we grew in confidence. It's sometimes quite easy for a club like ourselves to sometimes believe we should not be where we are, so it's important for me that I get that confidence into the lads. Confidence is important and the two results - and more importantly the two performances, will bring that confidence.

"We've got to be careful that we don't try to go for something that's not attainable, because we also have to remember the size of our squad. We are pretty much down to bare bones at the moment and we are only playing our second league game tomorrow. We cannot get carried away with it, but I am hopeful that the fans have recognised the work that we have put in over the summer and where we are. At some point during the season, we will have a bad week or two, and we all have to get through that together. We might as well enjoy this whilst we can, and we have had a far better week than we expected.

"So, it is massively important and there is no point us going to Huddersfield and picking things up if we are going to waste it to, with all due respect again, the Carlisle's and the teams we are expected to be in our similar sort of league. So, to get the best out of the result from Saturday we need to get something out of this Saturday.

"My hopes for the season are what we talked about with the chairman and the directors and are what I have spoken about all the time, which is keeping this club in this division. That is the most important thing and that is what we will be aiming for, and if we manage to do that, without being defeatist, we have achieved what we wanted to achieve."

"We have been a victim of our own success already, were were successful last year and didn't get an opportunity to get Nicky (Ajose) back. We haven't had an opportunity yet to get Tom (Lees) back and we have had people interested in our own players, so we are a victim of our own success, but I suppose that comes with success. Obviously, you are pleased if things go well but what do you do if somebody keeps scoring goals, someone is going to ring up about him (Ryan Lowe) one day I suppose.

"You have always got to be frightened of somebody in this division because everybody in this division has got a player that can change the game, that is the difference between League One and League Two. So, we can't be resting on our laurels and expecting that because we beat Coventry we can just turn up and beat Carlisle, that won't be the case. Carlisle will have the bit between their teeth and they will have a right good go at it, and if we are not at our best we are going to struggle. So, there is a difference between momentum and complacency and we need to make sure we get the right one.

"We went out for a coffee with some friends last night and I spent an hour out of the hour and fifteen minutes that we were there, on the phone, so I might as well have not bothered going out. Which was not so keenly welcomed from our friends and my wife, but still, it is part of the job and you just get on with it.

"They are a fantastic group of players though and I have just said to them that I am proud of every one of them, the eleven that played on Tuesday, the seven that sat on the bench and the ones that sat in the stand as well, they are a fantastic group of players to work with and I consider myself extremely lucky that I have inherited them."
