Kennedy out for rest of year

Midfielder Jason Kennedy was a very welcome sight on the training ground last Thursday as he joined the squad for their core strengthening exercises, as part of his rehabilitation programme, as he continues along the path of a steady return from a pelvic injury which has seen him ruled out of the action since the middle of October last year.

The 31-year old, who has scored 18 goals in his 101 appearances for the Blues, is a firm crowd favourite at Brunton Park having made a habit of either scoring vital goals or creating chances through his direct and effective style of play.

And the stylish midfielder received another boost this week when manager John Sheridan confirmed that he has a lot of respect and admiration for the way Kennedy approaches the game.

“I’m gutted he’s not fit and available for us right now because he’s an excellent player,” the United boss said. “He’s played against my teams a lot of times and I like him.

“I’ve had a quick chat with him and it’s obvious he’s had a difficult time with what has been a bad injury. I’ve told him that I’ve been there myself, with a knee injury, and it isn’t easy when you’ve been out a long time while the other lads are playing, training, laughing and joking.”

“I think it’s probably around January when he’s looking to be back, and that’s only four or five months away,” he added. “He’s still got five years or so left of his career, so I don’t see any point in him worrying too much about the next five months.

“My advice to him is to get himself in the best shape he can. I’m hoping he’ll be like a new player for us when he does come back.

“He’s a great kid and I want him to concentrate on getting himself ready. I’ve told him not to rush things so that hopefully he comes back as fit as he possibly can be.”
